The only video that tells you to go through the wheel well, which I figured out myself after struggling from the top, now, this is the first video I see recommended when I sign on to KZread, thanks for nothing youtube.

Not only did your video show me how to do the belt but I could also see exactly where the oil pressure sensor/switch is which is the next project. Thanks liked and subscribed!

Okay I did this repair yesterday. The instructions and walkthrough on the different pullys was definitely informative. The only thing I would add would be the last bit when you go to put the new belt on, the service manual has the belt coming from the bottom attaching to the idler pulley. For the life of me I could not get it to finally wrap around the idler pulley. So what I did was take it off. Wedge the screw into the opening with the idler on it, applied blue thread locker (it came with red) and then used the tensioner to two-step the belt onto the correct pulley. After that it was all about screwing using a drill until the screw was flush and in there. Torqued to 16ft lbs. Appreciate the video! Couldn't have done it without you.

It's almost the same for a 2018 Compass. No Phillips screws, but 8 mm screws and 10 mm plastic nuts. I changed the idler pully. That's 13 mm. The factory put red threadlocker on that bolt. It's a long one!! Use an extension on your power driver to make it through that metal tab in front of it. Thanks for the video, it helped!!

I found that you can just remove the two 10mm nuts and pull the snap pop and pull the splash guard back to change the belt you do not have to remove the whole splash guard . I found it to be faster.

@@MattTelepenko no you don't need to replace the whole control arm, the lower ball joint can be removed just by removing the 3 bolts holding it in place

  • @603Mechanicvids

usually they'll start squealing or start to have a wobble when they've gone bad. you can also inspect the surface of the pulleys where the belt would ride on it for any damage
