Serj Tankian on the possibility of new System of down music/tour, his memoir, activism, nu-metal

Музыка

Serj Tankian is best known for being the frontman for System of a Down, an activist and now an author with his new memoir “Down with the System.” We talk about the early years of SOAD, how he felt about nu-metal, his past life as a software entrepreneur, unreleased SOAD songs and the one thing it would take for the band to put out a new album.
Also, people used to scream “wake up” at him n the street because of their song “Chop Suey” so I find out if they are still doing that, what bands he’d love to tour with, his thoughts on new artists like, how he ended up doing a song for the Godzilla movie. Speaking of movies, will his memoir be turned into a movie one day?
Serj also has a new solo EP called Foundations coming out soon, but the first single “A.F Day” is out now. Serj told me that the song was written in the early days of SOAD and the vocals on the track are actually the original vocals from 25 years ago. So be sure to give that a stream when you’re done here and of course check out the book.

the difference between sleep token and soad is that sleep token have vocals and pop breakdowns that are just corny pop music and soad were just brutal but tongue in cheek in parts. i really wanted to like sleep token but couldn't get into it. but then again im 40 lol not exactly their target demographic haha. nice interview, cheers, currently listening to the audiobook of serj's memoir and it is really an amazing 'book'

Sleep token also don’t play shit live, 99 percent backing tracks and clicks. And even in studio it’s surely just midi instruments, SOAD plays it all and calls in friends for the recordings

Thankful the band is still with us and for the EP a couple years ago. Think Serj's take on a 25% *4 split on writing songs to get royalties squared isn't conducive to writing good songs. Either way kudos to SOAD for telling people that governments are nothing short of criminal gangs

its so clear that you didn't fully read the book, or maybe you did but didn't quite look more into it. i mean, how can you not know what egalitarianism is when he explained it in his book, and how he would apply it to the band, he basically already answered your question in his book. glad you learned here but... as an interviewer it's best to be thorough you know. impress your guest, that's how you grow as a channel as well.
