If I had a dollar for every one of these stories I've heard of a woman who escapes and the police don't believe her story and the criminal gets let to kill for more years before caught I'd be In a whole different tax bracket. It's beyond infuriating

There is a woman who escaped a serial killer and when she went to the police they did not believe her for some reason she failed a polygraph. She skipped town. Although they went to the serial killers home and everything was exactly like the woman described serial killer was not arrested because he had an alibi. His neighbor lied and said he was with him. Anyhow long story short I’m with you. There are so many women who have been assaulted and the police could care less. And back the blue people don’t understand why some people are against police

The Supreme Court decided back in 1981 (Warren v. DC) that cops do not owe a specific duty to provide police services to specific citizens.

I can’t believe the cops didn’t believe her - some of those other women might still be alive if they had. Speechless.

I know she was not really a child but it being her mother claiming she lies all the time, is all anyone needed to hear. Sometimes the one person you need to be there to support you has a axe to grind for no reason. Not all mothers care for their kids. Some will go out of their way to discredit their own children. Even lie to have them punished for things they didn't do.

The chilling part to me, was during his confession, where he says he "didn't know if someone else had picked Jennifer up and finished what he started." ... He actually believes this behavior was normal, and that ALL men share these deranged thoughts and impulses. He didn't even stop to consider that two good men in a truck would ever HELP a woman in distress. He thought they'd just 'finish the job'. Wonder how many other violent men think like this...

This is horrifying. Can anyone discuss this with me: around 2010 there were a bunch of movies that featured men assaulting women. I’m talking I couldn’t rent a new movie without being triggered unless it was a kids’ movie or a comedy. Action and horror were especially terrible genres. These assaults were sometimes so bad, the attackers were so numerous, it became assumed that any man (sorry to the men reading this comment), given the opportunity, would do horrible things to a woman without a second thought. This was terrifying to me at ages 18-24, but I did believe that it wasn’t true - I knew lots of good men. Can the media betray the thinking of the creator? In movies/shows where most men think the same way, could it be that the writer has violent thoughts, too? Can’t be a “one size fits all” thing. Many movies just follow trends and American media went through a shock factor phase. But, for some movies… just gotta wonder wtf.

It just is. They’re feelings. Like the waves in the ocean. We don’t judge them for breaking too early, for being too high or low. They’re just waves, Mother Nature. I’ve made a conscious effort to make my comment such that you can read it & not be exposed further- I’ve done my best but it’s unique to each person so still please use discernment. I use words, (trigger ones censored because the algorithm) but don’t describe acts. Our society has an obsessive fascination with two things. Sex. And death. Particularly when either is violent or somehow degrading. We’ve long seen the progression of violence in cinema & TV. What was considered shocking 80 years ago, is different to 50 years ago, is different to 5 years ago. Sex has been treated the same. Once it was completely radical that a woman was seen sitting in bed with a man, dressed in a nightie, on screen. No sex. No kissing. Just sitting together flirting. from mid 2000’s through the 2010s were absolutely awful & I sincerely believe internet culture influenced that astronomically. That was the Wild West of the internet time. Now, KZread will remove my comment if I don’t use asterisks in certain words. Videos educating victim survivors is removed because they say the R word. Facebook has enormous 24/7 teams working through post/photo reports. But not during that Wild West phase. I just saw a video of a huge creator interviewing another celeb & it was about being traumatised by things online during that period. The comment section was shattering (don’t read it). All of us who grew up during that time, the things burned into our brains, the things which keep us awake at night. All because we were a kid on the internet who clicked on the wrong link or video. The very worst of humanity in all of its forms flooded the online space, totally unmitigated. Todah you can find all of that, but you have to really go lookkng for it. Not back then. It was a cyber Russian roulette. Didn’t want to see that person d*e? Sorry, looks like we were just shit out of luck. This was also the time where online por* exploded, again completely unfettered, with unlimited access. Boys & girls have grown into men & women whose brain structure & function has actually changed due to their unlimited exposure to that content during critical stages of development. And it was of course in the movies, the tv shows, every sort of online article. It was before we were ‘woke’, before we had pulled our collective heads back in & re-ignited some honour for life & person. There’s so much more which can be said on the topic but I don’t want to wade into triggering territory. I would highly recommend two things. One is this article I found “Golden age perspectives on film sex & violen*e”. It’s absolutely brilliant & to try & summarise it would do it a great disservice (& the specific article is very trigger safe in my opinion, it’s very mild) . It’s on a blog called “another old movie blog”. Secondly I would really recommend what the article itself discusses- perhaps golden age cinema would be a good choice for you? I actually started falling in love with it after getting sucked into a few too many daytime reruns of golden films. You get a much more stimulating storyline than if you’re watching Ice Age 2. There’s minimal gratuitous violence. Everyone is terribly beautiful. Their voices are like honey. It’s funny, culturally relevant, & has real emotional depth. And you don’t need to worry about it showing any of the things you mentioned. Also- IMDB has a list (a disturbingly long one) titled “movies with disturbing sexual ab**e/Ra** scenes” which you can use to check if the movie is possibly comfortable for you to watch. But I would actually recommend a site/post at the site “letterboxd” which has a list of almost 1000 movies with such triggers. They’re doing it both to show the scope of the problem, & to assist as a content notice for victim survivors. Continue to be gentle with yourself & hold yourself in love, & I hope the site recommendations help you, & maybe you’ll even discover a love for golden cinema! Healing vibes

i met jennifer when she came to speak to my psychology class during my senior year of high school in 2019. she’s an amazing, kind woman. such an inspiration and so unbelievably strong.

Unfortunately, her mom was jealous of the fire she had inside of her. You’d think a mom would be proud of that in their children but some people don’t deserve to be parents!

Sadly, I have that same kind of Mother. She’s mostly tried to assassinate my character my entire life due to her own undiagnosed/untreated mental illness. I’m 63 and she’s 83 and she’s probably still doing it to anyone who will listen. Don’t know and don’t care bc for my own sanity I finally had to sever all ties. Some people aren’t meant to be mothers.

How dare the police not believe he. Not to mention, even IF it was here boyfriend that did that to her, why would they think those actions are ok? Bite marks, clothes torn off, etc. They should've investigated regardless of they believed he or not. Ive never been kidnapped, but as someone who was drugged and raped by 3 men,, this disgusts me.

What hurts most in this story is the mother and the police behavior after she told them what had happened to her...She had to live in fear for five years....That is madness.....

Thank you for covering stories of survivors... Being a survivor myself who just went home after being assaulted and went to bed for months gives people like me hope to fight for themselves. I'm so proud of these people who chose to fight and not be a part of the statistics. Putting them behind bars. Facing them head on and making sure these monsters never get out! I'm so proud!!

Her attacker is an absolute evil but wow her mom is a different kind of evil. How can you do that to your daughter? Also if the police and that mom made the investigation that time, they would have saved lives. They should be held responsible for those deaths.

Jennifer was on a show on KZread, I think it's called "I Survived", where people tell their survival stories directly to the camera, with some reenactment footage. She tells about the experience in detail & it is RIVITING. She's an incredibly brave woman. EDIT: That one doesn't cover after the attack, so much, or Mika.

I Survived is on A&E. Another good series that's kinda like I Survived is Monster In My Family, and it's on A&E also.

To not be believed about such a traumatically life changing experience- must have been the most painful pressure inside your heart. Her resilience is remarkable ❤️🌈

I cannot imagine the feeling of not being believed after this kind of experience. JUST HOW

It's so sad that she had such a heartless and uncaring mother that she did. Shame on her mother. It's people like her that gives me inspiration. My step-father-in-law tried to take my life in my own home because I stood up to him in defense that I'd see to it he'd have no say in the custody of mine and my first husband's daughter's because he had no blood ties to them. I told him "all you are is someone who adopted my husband when he was 10 years old and technically nothing more to him than a step-father." He didn't like that so in his rage, grabbed me by the throat and I could feel myself staring to pass out. I managed to kick him off of me and ran to my neighbor's house and she seen the hand print bruises he'd left on my neck. My life was further threatened by him that if I called the authorities he'd shoot me next time because he had money and could pay a lot of people off to cover my death up. That was in 1996. I lived my life looking over my shoulder until my second husband moved us and our 2 daughters to Washington State in 2007. I lived in fear not only for my life but my new family. Since my 1st husband had full custody of our 2 daughters and moved to where he couldn't be found, he protected our daughters from that man. It wasn't fun living that many years in fear living in the same town as this man. Fearing that one day I know that I'd run into him. Thank goodness I never did. He's still behind bars for the severe beating he did to my 1st husband's mother. It was my 1st husband's being there and his 911 call that got this abusive man in prison. My 2 oldest daughters don't have to live in further fear of him either nor does my only grandson.

I've seen two videos from this channel now and already, I just love so much how the focus is on the victims/survivors. I think too often true crime makes the killer the "main character" and weirdly a protagonist in that sense, their life and crimes romanticized/dramatized. I wish we'd be doing more like this channel is doing in remembering the names of victims/survivors, because a lot of people can easily name killers but can't think of any victims n it shouldn't be like that.

Not being believed after having gone through a horrendous ordeal like that must be one of the worst experiences ever.

The fact he thinks someone would finish his job when she got picked up … yeah cuz that’s so normal bud

The police who dismissed her claims should have gone to prison for aiding and abetting a murderer

Ur talking about, Robert Pickton in Port Qualicum British Columbia Canada. He mostly killed sex workers that were from Vancouver

When a person can escape his future murder and get him to jail… It’s not only life changing but it also save future lives which could’ve been taken by this same guy.

Heads up for Mika! What a terrific avenue you took your grief to. Now so many will feel stronger in themselves and hopefully safer in there communities💜

I wish you would cover how he was caught and more information on the other victims. They go nameless in the video.

I follow several true crime channels and watch these stories daily, but I can’t believe I haven’t heard this story before. Job well done again on highlighting the survivor instead of the POS attacker. She not only went through physical trauma, but also endured emotional trauma when no one, not even her own mother believed her. That would have wrecked me. Glad she was vindicated and got the justice she deserved.

I feel badly for Mika and Christopher. They both lost so much. I'm proud of Jennifer and her resiliency. I hope Christopher and Mika have found peace and some small measure.

How many lives could've been saved if they believed her?!

It makes me so angry her own mom would make her out to be a liar about it and the fact he said “I haven’t heard about her since , i thought someone might have finished what I started with her” makes it so much worse. I wish the best for her and I’m glad she got some form of justice )):

Okay, I just found your channel today but I LOVE how much you focus on survivors. So much true crime content focuses on the monsters and criminals, but kind of ignore the victims. By doing cases with living survivors we get first hand accounts from some of the most amazing people. I find the survivors to be so admirable and interesting and really love that you give them centre stage.

It's a relief she found a mother figure in Mica ❤️ She empowered Jennifer despite the lacking support from her own mother

It's such a pain when you tell the complete truth to the police (including random people in life) but they're not willing to believe. Hurts a lot, tons of us can experience this.

She must have had so many cuts and bruises on her. It's incredible that the cops wouldn't even investigate why she was in that condition. Even if she had a fight with her boyfriend shouldn't they be concerned about the condition she was in??? F the cops.

You have to wonder sometimes about the police. As for the mother, what a piece of work. That girl was incredibly brave fighting for her life with such determination. It would have been a terrifying experience.

That's the problem with the police. The assume that the parents know their children, but if you don't really know what is going on then you can't say shit or take sides.

I'm heartbroken for anyone who has to endure these kinds of cases. It makes me happy to hear from survivors and the circumstances that lead to their safety.

The cops dismissing her claim is unbelievably negligent! EDIT: Thank God she was still around five years later to help them out, when they needed her. SECOND EDIT: What a vindictive mother; no wonder the cops didn't believe her!

Anyone in law enforcement who refuses to investigate a claim like this should be banned from the profession permanently. The blood of innocents is on their hands.

every one of these videos gives me chills. they all have a moment of divine intervention when its clear to me an angel intervened. its truly inspiring. it fuels my faith and stokes that survivors spirit in me that i have too often allowed to be extinguished by my victim mentality. when being a victim isnt a choice, but being a survivor is, its hard to make that choice after trauma leaves you powerless. taking your power back has felt like too big a burden to bear, while the shame of being victimized is heavier & yet it’s comfortable after being conditioned into carrying it as who you are. a choice made for you long ago. the idea of choices terrify me. i dont trust my own judgement. judging myself worthy of being more that a victim and choosing to be a survivor instead feels silly, cliche, & undeserved. its hard to believe your more than worthless when thats how others have chosen to treat you. choosing to be more than worthless requires selfworth & im caught in a cycle of victimhood thats difficult to eacape. but these videos inspire me to try. they did it so maybe so can i. i just know my family will mock me for saying so or seeing myself in that way. so i must try to be strong in private. survive in my mind alone & pray no one find me weak enough to remind me of my worthlessness. because ill cave all over again. sometimes its hard to keep getting back up
