just want to say to you guys let's just give Jr. credit for being honest. He could have been fake and tell a big ass lie but he didn't. If he didn't have a good relationship with his father let him be real and tell his story. We are always on the outside looking in and think all these celebrities are perfect and don't do know wrong. What you see in magazines and TV are fake realities of their real lives. He's trying to tell you what was going on and how his dad really was so respect that.

wow, i'm shocked that someone aspiring to be mr. olympia is saying things openly like "drugs are mandatory in this sport" that is bold. If his placings are not affected by things like this I would be shocked. bodybuilding would be a different sport if the top guys talked like that with honesty.

That interview was so revealing. Sergio was one of my favorites going back to the 60s; it saddens me to think that he dealt with so much bitterness right up until the end. I understand it, but holding on to it can really keep you back. I wonder if he realized how many bodybuilding fans thought the world of him and believed that he should have won the 'O' in '72. Anyway, his son seems to be a very bright guy and I hope he finds the success he's working for.

Lots of athletes were like that. Joe Frazier's son said his daddy held on to his hatred of Muhammad Ali right up to the end. Referee Richard Steele said the late Marvin Hagler wouldn't even take a picture with Ray Leonard or him at the Hall Of Fame 2 years ago. Still bitter about that fight in 87

This is probably one of the most interesting stories in bodybuilding. Very real and honest person we have here. I was a NPC judge in Florida when Jr. came and competed for the 1st time. I was introduced to him at a show in Pensacola by a masters competitor who filled me in on the strained relationship between Jr and his father. It's this kind of human interest that could make bodybuilding have more mass appeal. Would be great to d a documentary about Jr.

His dad didn't want this kid to destroy himself with steroids. The man knew what this sport is about. No matter what the kid thinks he's achieving today, his father knows you have to use steroids and when bodybuilding is done with you they will cast you aside and say you ruined yourself with steroids.

Wow, an eye opening interview about Sergio Oliva from his son. Hopefully he can create his own legacy. There seems to be a lot of bodybuilders lately who are disgruntled with the direction taken by modern bodybuilding competitions, from the call-outs to the posing, to the judging, etc. I think just like there is a new generation of bodybuilders, so is there a new generation of fans. And the fans (IMO) are a driving force that will affect the sport of bodybuilding like never before.

Sergio Senior knew what a world of bullshit the IFBB was and is and always will be. He wanted Junior to excel in something besides the life of drugs and spending a whole life in the weight room. I wonder how much money Junior made so far in bodybuilding vs. how much he spent on bodybuilding. IFBB bodybuilding is nothing more than a money-losing, expensive 'profession'. Not hating on anybody, but if you've been in this forever like I have you do understand why Senior told his son to get the hell out of the chemical circus of 'pro' bodybuilding which leads to nowhere.

I met Sergio back in 86. Had the fortune to had worked with a very good friend of him from Chicago. The guy was pleasant and was very informative. I learned a lot from a long conversation that I and a friend had with him. I did however, realize that Sergio Sr did had somewhat of a huge ego and to be honest I don't blame him, because when you are just a person the comes from nothing, and all of a sudden you become this largest than life figure, your ego goes out of wack. Anyways that is the experience I had with his dad. Good interview

Salute to Sergio Jr. for giving us the truth about his Dad. Sergio Sr. was a great bodybuilder who must have known up front that he would face racial and ethnic discrimination in the 1960's and early 70's, so it was monumental for him to have won Mr. Olympia multiple times in that era. For that reason, it baffles me that Sergio thought he would be more popular than Arnold, who personified the image that the majority of Americans identified with. He was fortunate to have been offered the role in Predator, which he should have taken for his own good. Given all the testimony I've heard on Sergio Sr., including provoking his wife to defend herself with a gun, I'm convinced he had deeper mental problems beyond just bitterness from the bias he experienced. He was not accepting reality for what it was.

I think he was being diplomatic here. The report at the time said Sergio hit his wife and she ran to the bedroom to get his service revolver. He followed her and hit her again and she then shot him 5 times. It was in the Chicago Tribune July 25th 1986. Men who are abusive like that rarely only do it once. However much I admire him as a bodybuilder, as a person he was seriously flawed.

you look up anywhere on the internet and it'll tell you he was barely in his seventies when he died not a hair under eighty, Albert Beckles did the same thing, he won a pro show when he was sixty one as Milos Sarcev saw his real birthdate on his passport. Plus Sergio's mom shot Sergio a couple times, so Snr always was kind of a fun loving guy but he without a doubt kept to himself, he didnt train his son, he had a temper for sure. he resented the IFBB for 1972 and he always did thats why he competed in those other federations and won all those shows with ease and he wasnt happy even when he won. not everyone is close with there families. he literally sprinted for his life to that consulate, it was a different time, he didnt train like anyone else either. i've also never heard of anyone do the shit he did, like 7 dbol 22 pieces of toast 20 eggs and 2 pitchers of orange juice in front of witnesses one of which who was friends with him having lunch with him before a workout at golds. Arnold said himself Sergio was a better bodybuilder, period. also that he should of won in 1972 but at the last minute the judges were switched and they were now all german judges and the show was in Germany i believe as well so being Austrian and being a fluent German speaker Arnold would of won if he was 270 and didnt even diet for the show. but to be fair Sergio didnt practice his posing and he cheated on his diet and still managed to get away with it somewhat. Plus your much taller than your father your 6 feet? so you have a larger frame to fill and your lighter skinned than he is, plus you have tattoos you look like two entirely different people except when you smile plus the muscle bellies in the arms are all very long also. but i hope you do well in New York today Sergio, for the 2017 NY Pro. i didnt think you were lean enough this close to the show so i think you'll definitely need a good carb, mineral and slin protocol to be good for that show also a darker tan would be good. our times a little ahead of yours so it is probably tomorrow not today so just do whatever it takes to do your best Sergio. We dont want to see a replica of Sergio Oliva Snr we want to see the best possible Sergio Oliva Jnr. he was better than Arnold for a period of time and his proportions and ratios were way better than arnolds, but weider ran the mr.lympia so you suck it up and promote his stuff like all the other guys do, and if arnold and sergio are sponsored then its even but that wasnt the case. Sergio refused to be a sellout but then again he never tried his best. when he gave it another shot and did try and got fucked over by two people for three things his diet and both placings for his comeback. they said no matter what he will be 8th place and both years he came back he was exactly 8th place. he had the right to be mad because even after swallowing his pride after 12 years since his last appearance at the olympia he got screwed. he was trying to protect you because he knew you'd get fucked over and compared to him and it would be political, all the more reason to get so good it's undebateable. Markus Ruhl said once he did a show and didnt get a callout and didnt pose and they said he was so good it was obvious who the winner was so he had no need to pose so they just gave him the trophy and he went home. also Gunte rin 2002 took to the microphone after they announced his placing and the crowd booed, he basically stuck it to the man and said that that reaction meant more to him than the placing so thank you, then his career died instantly after that. politics are huge. you've got to suck it up. also hopefully your wife gets her green card also, as she'll be stuck here while your in New York.

its hard to judge when you're not in it. Ego and respect when both mixed together is a dangerous combination and when messed with gets you real fucked up.

@@lashandajones2724 I don't think he's doing it intentionally. He said he understands his father now that he's older. But remember that a lot of what he remembers he saw through a child and young man's eyes.
