Sergei Polunin:
Born in Kherson, Ukraine in 1989, Sergei Polunin/Сергей Полунин is a Russian ballet dancer. Famous for his "once every hundred years" talent, he has incredulous elevation and impeccable technique. From an early age, he displayed glorious dramatic range. Home videos of him as a small boy improvising to Pavarotti are very foretelling. At age 19, he became the youngest ever male principal dancer with London's Royal Ballet company.
Ballet gained an unprecedented new awareness when he danced in Hozier's viral video "Take Me To Church." People who would never have paid any attention to ballet began to watch the tattooed phenom. He is generally attributed with bringing ballet to the modern common man. Classical, yet cutting edge, Sergei starred in Diesel's "Make Love Not Walls" campaign and has put his mark on many other promotions.
Sergei is a much sought after model and actor. Fashion designers love his breathtaking physique and brooding good looks. He has garnered only positive reviews for his acting. His appearances include Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of the Orient Express, the biographical documentary Dancer, The White Crow, and Red Sparrow.

Thank you, Pam, for yet another video highlighting the beauty and grace of Sergei’s dance. So expressive, yet precise, so powerful, yet graceful. His technique is so spot-on, yet seems spontaneous and joyful. You’ve captured his remarkable virtuosity yet again. Thank you for posting.

lucynka102. You mean, he WAS. Now, he is appalling. His whole attitude now is appalling. No longer the man we loved. Shaven head, tattoos everywhere, and doing only modern and contemporary dance which I absolutely loathe. Only the classical, as here, for me. Plus ballets as Symphonic Variations and Monotones.

@@masmedi3539 your right, but classical ballett is, in my opinion and this especially for the male dancer, limited in movements. Maybe you remember the statement from Nureyev ....what a challenge and pleasure contemporary dance for him is.

Polunin, because of his natural gifts, proportions, training, acting ability, sense of humour, wide experience in the repertoire, is the quintessential classical ballet dancer. I would like to have seen him do more Ashton (did he ever do Symphonic Variations?), Roland Petit, Neumeier, Mats Ek, possibly some Carlson, Crystal Pite; and who knows, even a collaboration with Akram Kahn. But each individual goes the way they feel they have to go.

Am a bit confused as to why Glazunov's original music was taken out and replaced with a piano solo which isn't really in keeping with the dance. It doesn't happen anywhere else in the video so maybe the original audio for this section was poor quality or something? Would be grateful if anybody could throw some light on this please.

I don’t agree that Polunin is the dancer of the century, and am not even sure which century is meant to be his. Certainly critics throughout the 20th century said Nijinski was the best male dancer of the 20th century....has Polunin surpassed him? I look at Vladimir Vasiliev, Irek Mukhamedov, Rudolph Nureyev, David Hallberg, and others in a higher position than Polunin, who has-in my opinion-been a major disappointment and a poor steward of his talents. Almost from the time Polunin became a professional dancer, his terrible attitude has interfered with his progress. I hope that he’s able to get himself together before he’s much older.
