Sergei Rachmaninov Cello Sonata, Op. 19 Movement I for Baritone Saxophone
Музыка
Rachmaninoff’s Sonata for Cello and Piano was completed in 1901. This work is a part of Rachmaninoff’s resurgence of composition that came after a three year bout with mental health issues that followed a negative response to the premiere of his first symphony in 1897. This sonata was dedicated to Rachmaninoff’s great friend and colleague Anatoliy Brandukov. Brandukov and Rachmaninoff premiered the work in December of 1901, just a short time after the premiere of his famous second piano concerto. This piece must be approached as a true duo work, as the piano and cello parts are equally important and difficult. This is a beautiful tribute to a long and meaningful friendship.

I didn't expect the tone to be so warm and so close to a cello, this is great
wow never could've imagine there's another musical instrument could resemble to a cello's tone only the harmonics will tell the difference excellent effort, truly a piece of gem!
My daughter and I both play saxophone. I had her listen to this and she was in awe. She said "I didn't know bari could sound like that. It's beautiful" :-)
Your playing is amazing! Your tone is warm, the vibrato is perfection, and your phrasing is exquisite! Your performance was truly a delight to listen to! Bravo 👏 🔥🔥
That is truly fine control of the baritone sax.
Gorgeous tone; beautiful playing.
What a nice permformance ! I'm looking forward to the 2nd movement 👏
Bravo, Steven!! Gorgeous playing!!
Such golden tones! Never thought sax would equal cello for this beautiful work by Rachmaninoff, amazing! Pianist is great, too.

Robert Perkins Thanks!!!
To play bass clef of an (Eb) instrument, you simple play the notes as written and change the key signature. I play cello music on (Eb) flute all the time; Ravel and Kapustin, esp.
Cette transcription est surprenante et le saxo absolument sublime remplace parfaitement le violoncelle. Bravo pour cette performance. Mais où est caché le 2eme mouvement ?
i listened it a few times the i can say without question it's better than the original cello version
some of the most sensitive and colorful music that i've heard on sax. gotta ask whats the setup?
Brave !!!! I think it's a Yanagisawa B-992 ? With Woodstone gold-plated ligature and selmer S90-170 or 180 mouthpice? what kind of reed do you use?
Such beautiful playing. Was it your idea to do an all-bari program, or was it part of your degree requirement?

Ah -- so you did your master's at Northwestern? Gosh, where does the time go? When I subscribed to your channel, I think you were a sophomore at Indiana.

Same question. One person washes his ears with mashed potatoes. (Lo que decimos en Chile cuando alguien no oye bien o tiene pésimo gusto musical: Se lava las orejas con puré)
