Handed me the Stanley Cup which was full of beer, vodka, and god knows what else. I held it up while standing on the bar and dumped it over everyone who was there. Federov gave me a hug (I’ve never met him before) and I handed him back the cup. Coolest fucking night ever!! Love Federov ever since

Mike Ilitch was a stand up man. I read a story after he passed that he paid Rosa Parks rent for more than a decade and kept it quiet. She was poor down and out at the time, was robbed and assaulted and he stepped up to make sure she had a home. Amazing guy. A friend of his told the story after he passed away. And very cool here when Fedorov said 'and to my Captain, Steve Yzerman'... respect. Those are my thoughts, thank you.

Man that Russian 5 was the most spectacular line of all time. Scotty Bowman let them do what they wanted to do and utilize there talent. Fetisov who was sad and bitter about the 1980 Olympics when they lost to team USA said his most memorable moment in all of sports is when he hoisted up the Stanley cup for the first time ever and couldn’t believe it happened that relieved the pain of Lake Placid and realized how thankful he was playing a game that he loved for a living making more money than he could ever dream of living in a country where he never felt more free and only hearing it from the fans when they didn’t play up to their level.

I was in my 20s then and now I'm 41 and I only have memories- that's all. I am very glad he's in the Hockey Hall Of Fame and I, even though I know this is impossible, wish him and all the great hockey players we had then could have eternal life. Nobody is gonna come along as smooth and exciting as him and I'd rather take my final breath and go back to the past than to be where I am now. I look around and I can't believe it's come to this. He played for the Red Wings during the NHL golden era. The last true superstar in the National Hockey League. You don't see big time stars in hockey anymore that get the kind of spotlight attention that Fedorov got. From the endorsements, the drama with his personal life, cars, and women. Most importantly was his incredible talent though. Hockey was at its height back then, especially in Detroit. I'll always believe that.

I don't think his number will be retired. A retired number is not for the greatest player to wear a Red Wing uniform, but the greatest Red Wings. The holdout in 2003 when he and his agent leveraged $28M for 40 games or so. In 2008 he was offered $50M for 5 years then $40M for 4 years, $30M for 3 years...He wound up signing for $8M for 5 years with Anaheim...very selfish. When his investment advisor squandered $50M of his money, I believe it was karma for his greed....a truly great player however.....

Jeffrey Rose I will always remember the number 91 thanks to Federov

I wore 91 throughout my childhood leagues. Only time I haven't is when I was put on my current beer league team. They didn't have it available and we can't order a single jersey.
Seeing Mike Ilitch made me tear up. RIP Mr. I.
A class act, Sergei Federov!
Federov , Bure and Mogilny. Three of the greatest ever to play in NHL

Stevie Y and Sergei..my two favorite players ever!
What a joy it was to watch Sergei play hockey and especially for the Wings. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Smoothest player ever.
Спасибо вам друзья за поддержку,для них это было важно. Из далёкой России привет вам
The greatest of all time. Numbers don’t do him justice. There wasn’t a flaw in his game. Greatest all around player. He would even dominate in today’s era.
Federov is synonymous with the long past happiest days of my life. He's inspired me from then all the way to still being an inspiration now. To quote Paul McCartney I Believe In Yesterday.

What a great speaker and a great speech...
Awwww, he has a proud mama. It's nice seeing Bowman and some of those Red Wings I grew up watching sitting in that crowd. Mike Ilitch spoiled us.
He was always my fav player growing up, till Datsyuk showed up lol. Such a Legend!

these guys are modern days Knights, Hockey Knighthood Forever
C'mon Detroit. Get over him leaving. This man was the motor driving the success of his rime here. He deserves to have his 91 raised in the rafters.
Sergei was AWESOME. Shame on The Wings for letting him go.
Avs fan here; always liked Federov, even through all the rivalry years.
I was born in Apatity and remember his father, hockey coach for boys like me) Sergey Fedorov is BEST russian born player FOREVER!

I'll always believe Sergei is one of the greatest to play the game, but Alex Ovechkin is the best player of this era. Nobody can argue about that.
#91. What a player. Detroit, put that damn number up there where it belongs!!
Great speech,Sergey.
I was soo lucky to catch the greatest generation of wings and watch them.
Amazing talent and a class act !!!
Fetisov, Larionov, Fedorov, Kozlov, Konstantinov and of course Datsyuk , it was Russian machine with wings!

I sure miss watching Fedorov play. I miss this time period of Hockey for sure.
The GOAT
Fedyyy, love those no bucket goals back in the day.
Detroit with love from Russia
Fedorov is the best player to ever play the game! So many great memories.
Hey!... Don’t people ever forget. It was the Winnipeg Jets, whom in the 70’s first starting bringing in, foreign born players. Even though GM’s thought Winnipeg was crazy! Red Wings GM even admits it. Noticing the success Winnipeg was having. Encouraged the Detroit brass.

My mom used to love this guy. She had a jersey and I think got something signed.
Прекрасный человек!
I wonder what a line of Sellanne Bure on wings and Fedorov at center would have skated like.
Sergey spasibooo
Best two way player ever

His mom looks like Phyllis from The Office. I thought it was her in the thumbnail
Anybody else think Federov’s mom looks like Lois from the office?
Anyone else book the fact she looks just like Phyllis from the office 😂😂😂😂
I thought it was Phyllis from the office in the screen shot at first
I wonder why Stevie Y wasn't there
My friend says Fedorov wanted to play for the Leafs.

If Fedorov would have just understand his roll and played his career as a Red Wing, he would have been a legend.

he is a legend and it wasn't just his fault. both sides were wrong
But his greatest accomplishment is off the ice.. Nailing Anna Kournikova..
I'm glad that the NHL and the hockey world outside of Russia were able to get some of these guys out and into freedom.

Now the Democtat (in reality communists) are trying to make it like the Soviet Union here.
Lucky they didn’t know how bad his acceptance speech would be, he wouldn’t have been inducted. The whole room was snoozing.
But why is he talking so slowly?

Give him a break. English isn’t his first language and if he’s anything like me, he could have been terrified speaking in front of that many people.
Дорогие костюмы, вставные зубы, пафосные лица.. Чем вам не съезд КПСС??😜
