Serena looks really torpid early in this match, yet as so often in this era, she flips the switch and starts moving onto the ball, generating increasing pace to the point that the opponent just can’t keep up. some crushing returns and clinical serving. excellent finishing on the forehand, too. credit to Marion, though. 🙋🏼‍♂️ it was not in her character to be intimidated. this was the best that Marion had ever served, after five or six years on the tour - and you can see what great feel /hands she had: angles, dropshots, volleying, lobs. Bartoli could do everything. literally, everything. she was a far more talented a player than Sharapova, in my opinion but she never really got the approbation that she deserved. if she had appeared like a peroxide Barbie, male commentators would have been wet with hyperbole at her skill and all-around ability.

I've never been a fan of these silent overrules from the chair umpire.
