    Up to 20% tips in restaurants will be definitely appreciated by waiters, however, that is quite rare. Usually, one should tip several percent, mostly rounding the bill. As an example, if your bill was 9600 dinars one should leave 10000. Most restaurants in Belgrade have wireless credit card machines but I haven't seen one that has a tipping step during payment procedure. In these cases one has to leave some cash as a tip. It is basically the same as what you described for taxis.

    Also, if staying for more than a week or two, avoid airBNB. It's useful only for short stays, anything longer than that is a daylight robbery. You can easily find a rental for 350-600 euros, which is way more cheaper than most of the airBNB's, which can cost you 1000+ euros.

    The Avalа tower that you see now is not from the communist era. The one from the communist era (built in 1965) was destroyed in the criminal NATO bombing of Serbia (April 29, 1999), out of pure envy. The current Avalа Tower was built after the bombing (open in April 21, 2010). Nice presentation by the way.

    Affordable, affordable, but you sell a convertible currency, the U.S. dollar to a NON-convertible currency, serbian dinar. It's like taking dollars from western system and throwing away. They will never return into western economy. More, they will be used to emit serbian dinar, since is covered in dollars.

  • @januslog

    Hi Valentin, it didn’t at all feel like “throwing away money”, but rather you get a lot for your $$ given the favorable exchange rate. Locals told me that the living costs for people living on a local salary are naturally much higher

    @@januslog Dollar, Pound Sterling, Japanese Yen, Euro have a lot of value, because it is based on merchandise exchange. If the trade goes down a little, these currencies fall like flies. Also bad economic decisions influence them a lot. Like the case of US dollar which dropped 20% in June 2020. Strong anti-consumption measures were taken, so the dollar stayed as valued as it is.

  • @valentinchiriac9117

    What a convertible currency is ? A currency which can be exchanged with other convertible currency because there are big merchandise exchanges between the 2 countries. Balances between monies and merchandises is very easily adjusted because of this trade.

  • @valentinchiriac9117

    @valentinchiriac9117

    2 жыл бұрын

    What a non-convertible currency is ? A currency which cannot buy anything in another country, because there are limited or no merchandise exchanges. For example: romanian leu and hungarian forint. They are not convertible relative to each other. You cannot buy with lei something produced in Hungary and with forints something produced in Romania. The commercial exchanges are too little for that. Instead, a romanian has to buy dollars or euro, then go to Hungary and exchange them for forints. And viceversa. Same with serbian dinars, czech koruna and other non-convertible currencies: you cannot buy anyhting with them outside their countries.
