Sequence Infinite Patterns With MDD_____SNAKE
Музыка
Making music with MIDI is a wonderful thing, and Live’s MIDI Editor gives you a ton of flexibility for creating musical parts, but sometimes you need something a little different to get fresh ideas flowing. In the realm of hardware music-making, sequencers reign supreme and they present a slightly different approach to programming patterns. We can access these kinds of tools using many of the awesome MaxForLive sequencers available. In this video, I focus on one of my personal favourites, the free MDD_____SNAKE device.

Im a huge Randomiser\Arp\Sequencer fan, just downloaded this and played around and immediately realised how INSANELY strong this is. This could be put into some flashy 3rd party GUI and be sold for $$$. But the maker decided to give it out for free... one of the best M4L devices out there for sure.

Thanks for such a clear, fun and inspiring tute Tom. It's really appreciated how much effort you have made in this (and your other) vids.
I love your creative production on your videos. Straight to the point and your animations makes it so easy to watch through. Thank you.
Thanks, this was an excellent resource to find. I really appreciate the way you explain the functionality, and then go deeper. So I am experimenting with sending the midi to an old synth thru Ableton. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your job. I find your videos very informative and useful! Keep it up, followers are really appreciate this I promise!
Always very clean and informative, you sir are a real gem to this community. Thanks !
Love this. I own a Rene mk 1 and this is like having a whole bunch of them clocked together + it's way faster to set up. Using it with my Expert sleepers interface so it's sequencing virtual instruments and my modular setup. Be nice to have a second ( or third ) set of customisable parameters to assign, but apart from that this rocks. So good ;)
Yet another reason to get max for Live!!!
Nice! Never even looked into the max for live stuff didn’t realize how powerful it is. This is an insane video

MaxForLive is amazing. Prepare to get lost in the rabbit hole 😁 If you wanna see some seriously cool shit, check out Isotonik Studios. Their stuff is mostly paid, but its the best around by far.
These Maxforlive videos are super inspiring! On a side note, I noticed your cool & practical Ableton Categories on the left. I'd love to see you go over your Ableton organization/workflow. Thanks again, your work is awesome!

Hi, I discovered your channel two days ago and what to say... the best channel for great real tips in ableton, no doubt! Deserved compliments! Any lesson about how to create a groove with the drum sounds like those in this video? I noticed a 522... Everything sounds really soft and round... beautiful! Thanks.

There might be a subtle difference between using the internal quantizer and using the scale plug in with regards to random note distribution. It's clearly visible in the c minor example. Some note vales have two 'slots' while others only have one, favoring the notes with two slots over the others.
Thank you for the videos
Awesome dawsome 🔥💥
I love it ... Tnks

very cool neat vid, thx
Awesome device! It kind of reminds me... Any way of adding a tab dedicated to setting up probability/trigger conditions values on each knob (step), somehow like what we find on most Elektron devices?
this is soooo freakin cool ty
Hard to believe there is no other way to make sequencers stop playing normally. It's so annoying. Thanks for your creative work around!
nice synth sound
Cool idea with the clips to turn on/off - it is an issue I was facing! Solved. Thanks.

This is very nice and useful sequencer. Only thing I could wish for is to be able to store and recall snapshots. Thanks for sharing this.

That would definitely be a super cool feature! You can leave comments on MaxForLive.com so maybe leave one letting the developer know that's something you'd like.
FL studio's step sequencer is a beast
Wow
This is *almost* exactly what i've been looking for! Is there a device like this that can perform these same pattern variations on pre-existing midi clips? I.e. I program a melody I like, but I want to create rhythmic variations to it by having the notes play in different orders.
nice
LOVE U
I'm having a problem with Snake. Sometimes when I'm doing random stuff in A bleton (changing parameters, moving clips, or even pressing save) the settings on the Snake randomly change so the arp rhythm is different, but all the settings actually appear the same as before, making it impossible to change it back unless you press undo. Its incredibly frustrating having to press undo all the time to reverse whatever glitch it is. Anyone have any pointers?
It is an awesome tool ideed. One warning though: It seems, as if using the Sequencer glitches with Abletons Undo/Redo Option. I accidentally deleted a group of instruments and audio tracks in Session View, but when I hit "Undo", it would only undo/redo adjustments I made to the Sequencer Plug-In. Don't know if everyone has this problem
nice video, can anyone tell me what synth sounds / preset this is / or link me to a guide on how to create, thanks
Would you be able to use cv tools to get the gate and pitch outputted to a modular ?
@ELPHNT
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely! The CV Instrument takes in MIDI data and sends out CV + Gate, so just stick SNAKE before the CV Instrument and set it up with your modular as per usual.
Ableton without Max Live is just like: Romeo without Juliet... This is what I was looking for, thanks!
anyone know of a free non-mfl alternative? Loved using the snake w/ demo but can't find anything close to it (for free) that's available just as vst
wow
is there any lengths? for example to do a slide on a 303? is it possible to record the notes on a midi channel?

hey ELPHNT how did you create folders in your favorites library? seems like a great way to organize your instruments.
@ELPHNT

You have to create the folders elsewhere in The Browser, for example in the User Library or the Places section. Then you can add those folders to Collections. I personally use the User Library.
Looks very nice, can this work within other DAW or just with Ableton?

Sorry, just Ableton 'cause it's a MaxForLive device. Check out the hardware it's based on from MakeNoise though - www.makenoisemusic.com/modules/rene - obviously that's a little more pricey, but it'd work with anything.
I tried this yesterday. Is there some ableton/max device that would help keep a device like this only affecting a set range of notes, like 16 drum rack pads?
@ELPHNT
Жыл бұрын
There might be a Max device that could do this, but I'm not aware of one unfortunately 😥
This would be great with a 303! You've got your sequence, your gates, your accents... no need to be able to understand that outdated sequence anymore

It's just something I threw together for the video, but you'll find similar sounds in my ANLG Live Pack: elphnt.io/live-packs/synths-vol-1-anlg. There's a free demo that has 4 monophonic (useful for bass and lead) sounds in it, and I think those will do the trick 😉

this thing is awesome but i just encountered a bug where this plugin prevents you from hitting "undo" in ableton 10. extremely frustrating. it somehow affects undo globally.

I have Live 11.3.13 and I can't find it. I only see it in Max.
How can you create notes longer than 16th? While speed is still 16n?
rene
Thanks again for showing us how to do stuff! I have a question though. If there's a Rene plugin... Is there a 0-Control plugin? I want to buy the hardware unit to pair with my 0-Coast, but, you know, money etc. What attracts me most to the 0-Control is the timing options. The fact that you can adjust the timing and swing on a per-step basis. Is there a software option that replicates that?

did you ever figure out how to make it produce sound?
oh nice video thanks, i love that plug ! Is there any way to record the midi part of the custom sequencer ? I didn't figure it out . I only record the note, gate and velocity... thank you
@ELPHNT
3 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about capturing the MIDI data it generates, the best way to do that is to set up another blank MIDI Track, then at the Input set it to receive MIDI from the Track you've put SNAKE on. Then if you record onto that new MIDI track it will record the output of whatever SNAKE generates.
@pilotkidz
3 жыл бұрын
@@ELPHNTthank you for the answer. OK that s what i have done in fact but maybe i did it wrong. @@pilotkidz Ah, sorry, I see what you mean. There's no simple way to record that, unfortunately - you'll need another Max For Live device that lets you record that kind of information as automation. Here's one you could try - maxforlive.com/library/device/4507/automation-recorder - it looks like it costs $1 (not too bad) and it should do the trick.

Make sure the Velocity values are something other than 0. It should work with drums no problem. You might also need to make sure it's sending the right note to the hi-hat.
