Take a string line and drop it from one corner of your XY table and drop it to the floor, that is where you need rigidity. You might have gotten a much better result by simply bolting the current stand directly to the floor. Instead what you have done is suspend your entire mill up in the air on a beam, this might be why it shakes. Without seeing the whole picture it's difficult to say where the problem lies, but I think it's your stand. You are using an outrigger concept, which can work, but the outriggers need to be over-engineered for rigidity. This is a fancy way of saying: bigger steel, thicker steel, heavier steel. What you really want to do is make sure that there is support directly under each corner of your mill and then attach it to the floor. If you feel that the stand is flimsy due to the thickness of the steel, then I would recommend that you make a more sturdy one yourself, but try to keep the same geometry. Those bolt holes of the Matthews stand are EXACTLY where you want your support. Then drill some holes into the concrete pad, epoxy in some concrete inserts, and then CINCH the mill down to the concrete pad. This will give you the transfer a lot of load from the mill to the floor adding to its rigidity. If you want more rigidity to your set up, then build a bracket that attaches the column to the shop wall. That would definitely stop the leaning tower of Matthews from shaking. Good luck

Its not the fault of the stand you purchased. By mounting the stand on that platform you effectively reduced the foot print of the stand to half of what it would have sitting on the floor. These stands are not the heaviest things but they are sturdy enough to do the job as long as the entire base of the stand is supported not just under the mounting holes . Have you considered pouring a free floating concrete pad on the floor. Then you can raise the machine as much as you want and still lag bolt it ito the floating concrete pad. It will be solid as if was bolted to the floor.

I agree that it's not the stand. The two cross bars just arent enough to keep the thing from flexing like that. Youd need to brace it differently for that to work.

Could also be the feet or the feet bolts. They look pretty thin.

get yourself some concrete anchors. (they are strong enough to hold up a car lift) drill holes in the floor where they need to be and bolt the mill table directly to the floor. put 2 nuts then washer on the anchor first before the stand, then another washer and nut on top to tighten it. you can use the nuts on the bottom to level then jam nut it then tighten the top nut. if your worried about studs in the floor if you move or something, knock the anchors thru the floor and concrete over the holes.

Hey Adam, nice work in the conversion. Question: would happen to have a materials list for the entire conversion? I’m looking to buy this model and would like to do a CNC conversion as well. Any CAD Data would be appreciated too!

Hi Matt - sorry - I don’t have a detailed list but: 1. Ball screws, double ball nuts are all from ArizonaVideo99 on youtube. 2. Nema34 12Nm closed loop steppers and drives are from “Fast2Buy” on eBay 3. CNC controller is the Acorn from Centroid

This stand is what I won't do. I'll pass on the factory stand as well and have one fabricated out of 2" square tubing & plate.

Trying to avoid lagging into my floor but I’m curious if it would make a difference. This blue frame is real thin. Do you have the same one Dusan?

@@adamdebowski2037 it probably would but given you pointed out the gaps and the thickness of the steel it's hard to say how effective that would be i don't have the same one, no. i did however get a chinese lathe with machine stands and those stands are much thicker plate than what you're showing here lol. how much does the machine stand weigh?

@@adamdebowski2037 I bolted mine to the floor and it is actually quite rigid. Had to do some grinding on the base of the mount to make it flat and still shimmed it a bit for level but it is as solid as you would ever need. I'm happy enough with it.

It's not the stand that's making it rock like that. It's the stand you built. I have a hard time imaging that stand wiggling like that with the stock leveling feet
