I personally LOVE "Seperations" myself, I think it shows the raw rudimentary style of Cocker's lyricism and I find the amount of creative control Russel Senior gets refreshing (That is not to say I don't adore "Different Class" and "His 'N' Hers"). Despite my personal bias, I really enjoyed your take on the album. I especially admire your honesty in flat-out stating you're not a big fan of this style of music. If you're particularly in to seeing creative progression through an artists discography, I'd strongly suggest looking at "Dexy's Midnight Runners". It is still astounding to me that "Too-Rye-Ay" and "Don't Stand Me Down" are from the same band.

Oh yes, I’m aware of Kevin Rowland’s constant reinvention!

So essentially they had existed as a small northern band not selling any records through the entire period of the Thatcher government, just waiting for the 90's to happen?!

That's what is weird about them. They shouldn't have succeeded, but Cocker's bloody-mindedness propelled them on. Fashion also caught up with them, but we'll talk about that next time!
