Mike, that was a really well produced informative video! Loved the "hook" at the beginning and your implementation of "Broll" throughout. You spent a lot of time on this, and it shows! Some really sage advice for those who may come to Korea! I remember the 90's buses 😂, so glad they improved the system. We got scammed by a Taxi in 1996 when he drove around in a big circle rather than going a much quicker route. But, things are much better nowadays! I really enjoyed this and learned a few things along the way!

Thanks, Adam! I have a whole pile of stories about buses and taxis from back then. Not all bad, mind you. Many of the taxi drivers were a lot more talkative than the ones I encounter today. That sometimes made for some colorful rides. They rarely talk to me these days. It was just a different world.

Thank you for the helpful video! When would you say are the worst traffic hours in Seoul both for road/bus traffic and for subway? I have been told to avoid morning hours before 9 am and to also avoid 6-7 pm for night hours. I am a little worried about traffic since my planned flight will land in Incheon at 4 pm, which means that I will likely be stuck in traffic on my way into the city via airport bus. :/

The morning rush is more predictable. It starts picking up around 7:30 and thinning out around 9:00. For the evening rush, 6:00 to 7:00 is certainly the worst of it, but evenings are just generally busier earlier and later, and some days more than others. I'll always choose the subway during the rush. Sometimes you have to wait for one or two trains to go by before you can get on, but once you do get on, you have frequent opportunities to hop off if you feel overwhelmed. I can't stand being stuck on a crowded bus in heavy traffic with no idea how long it's going be before I can step off. I haven't taken a bus to or from Incheon Airport in quite a while, and I don't recall ever having done it during rush hour. Given your arrival time, you'll most likely hit some moderate traffic at some point, but whether you hit the worst of it depends on your departure time and destination. If you're headed to central Seoul, I'd recommend taking the express train to Seoul Station. That's what I always do these days. After a long flight, it's the most comfortable option. If you can get on the 4:40 train, it will get you to Seoul Station before 5:25. Then you have multiple options to get to your destination. If you aren't staying anywhere central and you're worried about traffic, then the Airport Railroad line of the subway network, what they call the "All Stop Train" at the airport, might be a better option.

@@MikeFromKorea Thank you for the insights! I will be taking a limo bus from the airport to Anguk station--I believe it is one of those nicer buses and not a city bus where people get on and off. I think it only drops people off along the route so it will be constrained to only the people who entered at the airport. I am choosing the limo bus because it's a direct line to Anguk station, where I will be staying. My flight is scheduled to land at 4:30 pm and I will have a checked bag (for specific liquids I need with me) so I don't expect leaving the airport until at least 5 pm. Fingers crossed my bus gets to the stop before 6 pm because I think I have no other choice other than staying at the airport and catching a different bus after 7 pm...

Looking at the stops on that route, I'm pretty sure you'll hit some heavy traffic at that time of day. You'll be heading through some of the busiest areas of the city. If you take the express train to Seoul Station, that's a 43-minute ride followed by ~15-minutes on the subway to Anguk Station, with one transfer from Line 4 to Line 3 at Chungmuro Station. Even factoring in the time you have to wait for the express train, that's still going to be faster than the bus. That said, you'll definitely see more on the bus. My impatience for traffic is always the prime factor when I think about this stuff, and your priorities are undoubtedly different. If you do take the airport bus, please let me know how the traffic situation ended up. That will be useful to know!
