There have been some request for a video on my parrot Senor Verde so here it is. My son has also been asking for a video on the bird.
Flocks number in the hundreds in this area of California. He was on the ground with an injured wing. He still has trouble with one wing and he still can't fly.
He has a great personality for a bird and he can say a few words now like "Hello," "Hello Parrot," "Caleb" and some other gibberish type words. I think with enough time - they can live up to 45 years I can expand his vocabulary.
Okay, so if you want a parrot there are a few things you should know. They can get annoyingly loud - especially at dawn and dusk. I solve this problem by putting him in his cage in the garage at dawn for a couple of hours and then again at dusk for an hour or so. Problem solved. They can also get loud when company comes over, so again I put him in his garage cage for the duration of the visit. They can also chew up important papers if you let the bird out of the cage and are not careful (I did that once). They do need time outside the cage and don't necessarily need to leave the cage area as Senor Verde enjoys just walking on top.
So the bird is a n excellent pet if you are aware of the down side. He is very entertaining and very affectionate too.

Very cool. Like I mentioned in the comments Senor Verde does great except at dawn & dusk or if we have a lot of company over. Then he is in his garage cage for awhile - he doesn't mind at all. He has a great personality & loves to be petted. Right now he is destroying one of his many toys... I buy them on Amazon since they don't last long. My wife doesn't really like him and when I told her he might live for 40 years she just gave me that look ;)

From what I researched they slowly moved up from South America where they are known as the Green Cheek Amazon Parrot. They have been in Mexico for quite some time hence the new name - Red Headed Mexican Parrot. They came to Southern California in noticeable numbers at least in my area about ten years ago. The weather is perfect for them and they have very little if no predators here. They ain't going back ;) They are an amazing sight and sound for sure.

Omgg I had one of these parrots and her name was Rico. I miss her so much. Got her when I was 6 and had her until I was 21 and she was 15 when I got her. Unfortunately, she got out of the front door that was accidentally left open by my neighbor and I never saw her again. I despised my neighbor for the remaining time living there. he did all of the same sounds and dances as this one. If I didn't know any better I would think this was her. I looked up this video to show my fiance what kind of parrot I had. I wonder if all Red Heads make these noises and such. She'd move her head dancing. Say hello when people walked in. Meow like a cat when she wanted attention. And she did this hilarious weird dance thing when I ran the vacuum. And so much more. The vacuum dance used to crack me up. Miss her so much 😢

Yes, he was on the ground hiding by some bricks. He still can't fly - one wing looks pretty messed up still right where the flying feathers go and this is a year later so maybe it is a permanent type of injury. Yeah it is awesome here - Parrots, Peacocks, Deer, Coyotes & Bears. Been to Florida twice and it is a nice flat state with some very large bugs everywhere ;)

lovecoco2 It took about a year for my son to be able to pet him (not really sure on the sex). My wife still can't touch him. He will try to bite everyone else so no one tries to hold or pet him. He is perfectly fine with me now but the first 6 months he did bite me hard on occasion (drawing blood) , now he never does. In fact now he calls for me to pet him. So yes and no. I don't think this species is people friendly but your bird should bond to you over time.

Funny, driving around with my Nephew training him in Pasadena and just saw a flock of about 20 parrots. I mentioned that there are no predators here for them - and everyone leaves food out for them so they aren't going anywhere soon. Saw two Blue Jays this morning also. I guess "Don't Mess With Texas" is a truism ;).

A little late in posting but they are native to the Rio Grande Valley. Brownsville is full of them! They are completely adapted to the environment except their numbers are lower due to two reasons: many people cut hollow palm trees which these birds nest in and, sadly, the second one is earth's greatest predator: man. Many people try to steal hatchlings to sell in the black pet trade.

I also keep him covered all night with a thin sheet on top of the cage. I put the cage in the corner in the kitchen - the room we are in most since they are very social - although they tend to bond with only one person. No one can hold him but me.
