At Sennen Cove today - speaking to a chap about 95mph winds in February 2021 that took lifeboat roof off - he said that even in those conditions would still launch if lives were at risk - the crew and RNLI best of the best ! Stay safe and thank you 🙏

Portland, Dorset had an auxiliary fire service and it was much the same there when ever there was a shout. The safest place to stand was in a pub or shop doorway as these heroes streamed past to get to the station. My heart goes out to these characters as they serve our communities and as an ex-sailor, I believe these guys were the bravest of the brave. Just before Christmas 1985 I was walking the South West Coastal Path near to Sennen Cove when I saw a poster for a fund raising event at the Sennen Cove Inn in aid of the RNLI. What a night that was!! I awoke in the morning in my tent in Sennen Cove car park to find a good layer of snow all around and my tent secured to a sign that read "No overnight camping in this car park. Penalty £20" I didn't have £20 as I had spent it all the night before. Oh well, I was well on my way before anyone was about to catch me. Thank you for posting this video.

lets not forget all the independent lifeboats out there as well

I love the way how British ears are trained to recognise Land Rovers.

www.sennen-cove.com/alb11.htm `City of London III` launched at 1910 today to assist the 60ft Newlyn Crabber `Kastel Paol` which had suffered gearbox failure appx 16 miles north-northwest of Land`s End. Lifeboat arrived with the crabber at 1955 and a tow was started for Newlyn, arriving at 0200 on 21st. Lifeboat remained at Newlyn for a few hours due to adverse tidal conditions for recovery at Sennen Cove, and returned to the Cove at 0600, recovering up the launch slipway. Weather:- periods of rain; light winds and a slight sea. Crew:- Terry George, Phil Shannon, Richard Brown, Kirstan Gorvin, Nigel Ault, John Murray, Elliot Andrews. I Really believe the RNLI Rescuers deserve Blue Lights. They are Allowed them, Furthermore they are exempt from Traffic rules. However, The blue lights are optional, Not standard. In some places they do use it but I think they should all have Blue Lights.

QuantumBurrito RNLI crew members are not allowed blue lights by law, and they are not allowed to break traffic laws either.

You may be thinking of the Coast Guard having blue lights and sirens. BUT no one is except from traffic rules, even Police, who have to justify there actions and speed. But yes blue lights for these brave ladies and gents would be a good advantage as a lot of lifeboat stations are in touristy areas.

Reatained firefighters should also be allowed to use blue lights for responding to a call out. Incidentally blue lights are there to let you know they are there. All emergency services regardless of the urgency of the call must adhere to traffic laws. Red traffic lights can be ignored but you need to treat them as a give way sign.

Police & fire have to obey traffic rules, even when using lights & sirens? What if in pursuit? Just curious.. in most places I know they have traffic right of way & everyone has to pull over, stop or yield. But only when responding to official calls or radioing in events that justify lights & sirens.

pjd7325 why? That’s silly. I drive a fire engine. We are not required to follow speed limits. We have to give due care at intersections. People have to yield to our engines and if they don’t the firefighters can charge them. I’m in Ontario Canada.

When you look at the time it took for the lifeboat to launch it shows what a brilliant service the RNLI gives us. Just 8 minutes from being woken in the middle of the night to hitting the water. I hate to see or hear an emergency vehicle as it’s normally a case of someone’s in trouble or hurt. But with a service like this at least they are given the best chance possible. That’s why I will always donate to this tremendous service. Are they not allowed blue lights.?

They are a volunteer charitable organisation and as such have no official status. So, no "blues & two's".

shaun parkinson We are talking about their own personal cars for responding from home/work t the Lifeboat Station. They cannot have blue lights on their own personal vehicles and neither can you. Lifeboats and Lifeboat Launching Vehicles can have them just like your Mountain Rescue vehicles but not your own personal vehicles.

jw93emergency if you read my comment properly you will see that I said BLUE LIGHTS ON THE BOATS AND ON THE VEHICLES I never mentioned anything about our own personal vehicle though as much of a good idea it would be it wouldn't be good for the budget as it does cost over 3000 to have a vehicle fitted out with the system and to have them registered and licenced to use them in public areas

shaun parkinson exactly! Everyone else is talking about whether the volunteers are allowed blue lights on their own cars. The answer to that is no. And then you arrived and started telling people that they were wrong because you got the wrong end of the stick. We were always talking about blue lights on their own cars for responding to station. It really isn’t hard to read a comment properly before commenting yourself to make sure you understand the conversation. Blue lights on their own cars would not be a good idea anyway.

Very interesting! Until 15 minutes ago I'd never heard of a "life boat house" before, nor seen what I know as Coast Guard or swift water rescue boats launch from a ramp. Honestly, it looks like something I'd do if I had the chance.

Mitchellman the US coast guard are paid, so are always at the station or the clipper is already at sea, the RNLI are volunteers that are called to the boat house from jobs or their homes.
