Sengterbelle 50W Linear Power Supply LPS with R-Core transformer review

Ғылым және технология

I got this as I needed non-standard 9V DC output for my Singxer SU-6.
I was curious about r-core, as these tend to be more expensive than regular toroidal ones.
This one is seriuosly good with ripple lower than Breeze that Ive reviewed.
Heavier, beefier and a bit longer. Good buy, though the price went up and now I can see them with 130USD price tag.

Händler liefert zuverläßig in Deutschland per Hermes, bisher kein Zoll drauf gewesen.

    Yes that's a valid point, it's not the most convenient to reach, but it looks better witch switch on the back and clean front plate. People with nice equipment racks won't be bothered:) I'm personally using Tuya controlled switches before my EMI filtered power strips so I'm turning on all of needed equipment with one touch of remote Tuya button - no reaching for power switches at all!

    is there any advantage of a R-core vs ring transformer

    Rcore transformers have more uniform electromagnetic flow so they should be more efficient and create more stable output. Is this audible? Will see about that as I have one more on the way that seems to have exactly the same build and different trafo (standard toroidal one)

    This is linear power supply so if replaces your regular wall wart impulse power supply with clean, stable DC supply. It can be used for your DAC, HTPC, external clock - anything that is sensitive for quality and stability of input power. Point taken, should have told about in the review (this is my third LPS review so I kinda assumed that people have seen previous ones)

    @@k4syx so that's not for amp? More for dac and preamp? What's the difference between this and power conditioner then? I have a power conditioner from Amazon and I can hear it improves the sound greatly

  • @k4syx

    @k4syx

    @@MasterofPlay7 power conditioner is for your power line (220-240V AC). This is just power supply providing like 12V DC for example. This DC voltage would be the power source for some DAC or headphone amps (or even speaker amps that have external power supplys, though it would more in 24-48V DC range). So kinda different device for different needs: doesn't replace conditioners but will probably slightly benefit from their presence

    Are you thinking about the price of parts and case? It's not that bad, here in Europe good case and transformer can be expensive. And compared to price of standard wall wart plug power supply, linear power supplies with low ripple are way more expensive...

    My feeling is it is snake oil audio. Many reviewers praise very expensive linear power supplies. Usually no measurements available except at audiosciencereview were it is shown it does not make any difference.

  • @k4syx

    @k4syx

    Ай бұрын

    @@rainerbroennimann1563 well LPS doesn't have to be expensive, I'm buying as cheap as I can. Also, it's possible to diy LPS, but the price of the trafo and case is the main component and price wise it may be more or less the same. So no money involved. As for measurements, I've measured all my power supplies for ripple and best LPS was 7mV, Meanwells were like 80-90 (as specced by mfgr) but regular impulse power supplies were like 150-200mV and that is 0.15 - 0.2V. so for 5 or 7V power supply that's quite a lot, and that's AC component present in your DC that should be dead flat. With all respect to Amir (and I like his reviews and I'm a frequent ASR visitor) he doesn't know it all. There's a reason why LPSs exist and why they are superior form of providing power to delicate, precise equipment. Ripple = 100% noise...

    I bought a 5V LPS from Aliexpress for my DAC. Very nice construction, but it took the life out of the DAC. It flattened the soundstage and made the music less dynamic. Just because it’s a LPS, doesn’t mean it’ll be better.
