Senegal's PM Ousmane Sonko to Remove French Military Bases? | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Senegal's PM Ousmane Sonko to Remove French Military Bases? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Senegal's Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, delivered a fiery speech on Thursday, where he took shots at France. He questioned why, after more than 60 years of Senegal's independence from France, the former coloniser was still benefitting from military bases in the country. France has between 350 and 400 troops stationed in Senegal. Senegal's coup-hit neighbours Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso have already removed French bases from their country. Could Senegal be next? And Sonko did not stop at criticising the military bases. He also questioned the CFA franc, Senegal's currency that is pegged to the Euro. Is Senegal planning to completely sever ties with its former colonial overlord?

I agree with you. It is ridiculous for countries such as France and the US to have bases and soldiers in African countries when so many Africans are looking for work overseas. There is no shortage of men in Africa to defend their own countries! As an American, I want our young people to return home from any country which needs jobs for their own young people. I want our young people to return home, to be here, with our families, so they can continue their educations, grow their families, and develop businesses. I hope the next US president will bring our troops home!

Imagine a new currency for the future anti-colonialist confederation of Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and maybe Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. French would be the administrative language and lingua franca for all the ethnicities but not the official language- Not even the US has English as an official language. It's just the de facto main language. This confederation will be its own economic zone maybe have its own unified military with probably Russian and Chinese military technology. Burkina Faso is currently in the process of getting a nuclear power plant built by Russia. They have their own uranium. France took the uranium of Niger and Burkina Faso almost for free.
