Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods & Blackwater Falls | Car Camping in West Virginia!
We finally got the chance to explore Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods and Blackwater falls! West Virginia never disappoints when it comes to natural beauty. Watch to see our car camping fail lol
About me:
I am a 3rd year SRNA & ICU nurse. I went to nursing school to get my ADN, started working and then went back for my BSN. I was a travel nurse for 2 years before starting CRNA school. I loved travel nursing so much but I also love anesthesia so I went back to school to become a CRNA. I plan to continue my travel nursing career when I become a nurse anesthetist! Fitness is also a huge part of my life. I've competed in powerlifting and Crossfit. Jon and I own a gym together! We are also foster parents to dogs and (soon to be) children!

I’ve lived in wv my whole life! It’s a beautiful state❤ lots of amazing things to do here.
It’s a WV well known fact that if you smell cucumbers there’s a copperhead near by. As a little girl I’d be playing with friends, suddenly smell cucumbers, and told them all we needed to leave IMMEDIATELY. We’d run back in the house and get my Dad and he’d always find the snake.

So true. Copperheads do produce a smell similar to cucumbers. Like your dad..we always found the snake.
Love the life you guys have made together.

You're awesome Kelli! Thanks for the kind words 💜
Visited Seneca a week ago, today. Was to the Dolly the day before. My daughter and granddaughter went to Black Water. Thanks.
I wish I could be there physically, watching the scenery through a screen helps soothe the stress in some way.
The banter is very cute, thanks for taking us along.
You guys are so comical🤣💕I love watching your travel blogs..thx for sharing 🙋🏿♀️🙋🏿♀️those falls are awesome
I wanna squeeze the air out of both of you for fostering 😭😭😭😭 dogs and cats. You both are my favorite people in the whole wide world 🐕🦺🦮🦮🐕🦺🐈🐈 😺 😺 😺💜💜💜💜💜💕💕💕💕💕🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍👍
Gorgeous... Almost like a movie set. Mother Nature: quite the artiste, no? Makes this adopted Left Coaster a bit homesick...

Thank you for an amazing video. I love West Virginia. I will be there this fall. I would like to see the fall leaves. Both of you are so beautiful. I love naturally beautiful people. No photoshop, no video edit. Being natural is the best.
That hike is tough but I'm not athletic either. Went here in September 2019. It would be a little creepy going back down at night! We camped in a tent at the state campground, it was a very fun time I want to go back again some day.
I am going camping a Seneca Shadows campground next week, there is no way I am climbing up onto those rocks like that lol The viewing area should be good enough for me, I didn't realize how narrow that was until you filmed yourself walking on it and I Noped
Love your videos! I'm originally from Fairmont. Cooper's Rock is also really nice.

At the end of every summer Blackwater Falls hosts a public welcome astronomy meet. This year.... who knows. A good south bit of Seneca Rocks is the Green Bank Radio Observatory. The view from Seneca Rocks in the Fall can't be beat. You didn't mention the rocks are a rock climbing paradise. Climbers can be spotted from the valley floor every nice day and a lot of the bad ones.

I live in WV but on the west side but over the years have made many trips to these great sites. Sadly this couple missed some great places that was just minutes from where they was. Smokehole Caverns, Seneca Caverns, Spruce Knob our highest point in WV and the most beautiful drives through what's known as Germany Valley.
It's a great view up there. Went there few weeks ago..to calm covid blues..love your video

My bf and I are planning on car camping at Dolly Sods this weekend and I wanted to check out whether car camping is possible there, thanks for your setup and info :)
That place looks amazing. I lived in West Virginia for about a year but never got to go to this place. I definitely wanna check it out.

I am sure you are tired of confirmations on the cucumber thing.... lived in WV all our lives and have had it confirmed many times. We just bought our retirement camper, my wife is disabled and I am getting somewhat more mobile after a couple of surgeries. We could never climb Seneca Rocks, but we will do what we can with my wife's power chair. Getting out and having coffee in interesting places is our goal. Oh yeah, and vlogging about it on our disability travel channel. Great video!
As a British person who has also visited that state me and my friends pretty much agreed that West Virginia is a brother of Switzerland with more forests. Great place.

I go up to the top of Seneca Rocks when I stay there at Yokums cabins. My family and close friends stay there for a week during fishing 🎣 season. We do this every spring stay there go fishing in the mornings 🌄 then get back to the cabins then go hiking 🏃 to the top. Then get back to eat some dinner 🍽 😋. The watch some tv and we stay there at the same time as March Madness the NCAA men's Basketball 🏀 tournament. So yeah all of us to gather having fun good times.🙂
Wow this trip is so cool! so happy for you guys!!! Talk about living life to the fullest. You guys got great careers, jons a beast with money and handy with houses. Possibilities endless!!!! Beamer!!!! haha

Love it there!
And to anyone wanting to explore the area it is in the Eastern Panhandle of WV. Pendleton, Grant, and Tucker counties. And yes, there are many more beautiful places in the area. They would still be hiking if they were to film them all.
To anyone visiting from out of state: Do Not ignore that warning sign and climb out onto the knife edge. The north edge was called the "face of 1000 pitons" because during WWII those rocks were used to train soldiers in rappelling, and the face is covered in thousands of piton holes and remaining soft iron pitons, rusting out. The face is not stable. A whole section called the Gendarme fell fairly recently, and there is no telling when another section could go. If you fall off that knife edge you are dead. Then it falls to our taxpayers to foot the bill to send Search and Rescue/Retrieval teams up the mountain to carry you down.
There is a trail at Black Water falls called Lyndi point ( spelling?) . It's worth the short hike . I think it's one of the most beautiful views in WV. It's not as public , because its an overlook and more dangerous .
I live in WV definitely a beautiful state!
Instead of and inflatable mattres you should consider a couple of thick yoga mats. I use 2 mats for my car camping. You will want to use 2 mays for each person, (4 for 2 people)...

My wife and I live in North-Eastern West Virginia. And we just went to Seneca Rocks yesterday. And we have seen Black Water Falls and Dolly Sods. DS "A Bit Of Northern Canada In Our Area. Gus my Mni Schnauzer said tell Beamer Hi for him. We are going to use our 98 Jeep Cherokee for camping what do you guys have?
Enjoyed the video oh, but I think I'll stick to my RV sleeping
There a hike about 15 miles from there called chimney top...its some of the most beautiful views ive ever seen..beter than Seneca rocks.
Great Video guys

Where did you guys park to sleep ? I'm thinking about heading there this weekend !
If you’re noticing why the trees look a little odd (only growing full limbs on one side) it’s because of the lack of coverage and high wind speed!
I have so many great childhood memories from those areas! I'm so glad you guys made it. Although the clip of beamer jumping around on the rocks gave me way too much anxiety 😬 lmao

There are a bunch of campgrounds in the area. From Spruce Knob to Blackwater Falls there are many places to park and sleep.
Where did you come up with the 270’ fall at Blackwater Falls? It’s 57’. No optical illusion to it. Sorry to rain on your parade. 😉
That is True about The Copper Head Snake if you smell Cucumbers there is a Copperhead around
You should have taken a ride through Smoke Hole canyon
Is it possible to walk across the top to the other side without climbing gear?

She's right ya know! There's a saying that if you smell a cucumber smell, that copperheads emit that similar scent as a warning. Now if it's factual or not I don't know, my sense of smell isn't that keen, but it is an actual saying that has been passed around from generation to generation.
The best part is when the 80 year old couple passes you walking up the trail.

Wrong turn
be careful when you're up there at dolly sods. On October 14, 1943, the U.S. Army began transforming parts of Dolly Sods into an artillery range. Troops from across the eastern United States were trained at what the Army named the “West Virginia Maneuver Area” in preparation for combat in World War II Many of the artillery and mortar shells shot into the area for practice still exist. In 1997, a highly trained crew surveyed the trail locations and known campsites for shells. They found 15, some of which were still live. I know the chances of you finding an unexploded shell or like astronomical but better safe the sorry. So yeah when you at Dolly Sods always stay on the paths don't wonder off.
