McGonagall doesn't hate the students! She may be tough on them, but in fact she cares about them a lot. That is truly why she is tough on them, demanding the very best from them, so that they can become the very best. Contrast that with Umbridge, who actively hates the students, and does everything in her power to sabotage them, from school work that doesn't actually teach them anything to cruel and inhumane punishments.

Like aside from traumatizing poor Neville and turning Draco into a ferret (which was probably deserved, I don’t entirely remember), he actually did a great job. Like he gave in-depth classes with hands-on experience. Like, yes, actually performing the three unforgivables in class was not the ideal way to teach, but at least they learned them in a school-setting before having to face them in a war?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you argument here, about seeing the curses in a safe setting, only really works if you know the war is going to happen. At that point, voldemort was still a shrunken ugly baby with no nose, so they didn't know. Sure, Barry crouch jr *hoped* it would, but even then, he wouldn't want to help prepare the soldiers of the other side. I think that his entire motivation was just to traumatize them, and possibly keep them out of commission for the coming battle.it definitely was successful on Neville, as you pointed out, and I think that if the battle oh hogwarts had been that year instead of 3 years later, he definitely would still have had PTSD from that. I'm not trying to start an argument, I just wanted to point out another way to view this. Have a nice day ❤

Honestly, OotP benefited from editing (it was the weakest part of the series, imho, and the unnecessary longness was part of that.) But Maggie Smith would have chewed the scenery with this one. I'm glad at least we got that hillarious scene of her teaching the Gryfindors to dance.

Lupin was a great teacher and even taught Harry a powerful charm that saved his life on several occasions. And fake-Moody taught him to resist one of the unforgivable curses.

I can't believe i am writing this, but even Gilderoy Lockhart was a better professor than Dolores Umbridge

Man, when she told Umbridge "I'll make sure he becomes an auror if it's the last thing I do" I gained a whole new respect for her.

McGonagall is the best kind of teacher; stern but fair. And will have your back when you're genuinely putting in effort. She was badass in the book.

This is my second favorite Mcgonagall scene in the books. First place for me still gotta be when Mcgonagall tells Neville that he can’t continue her class and just because his grandmother didn’t get an owl in charms doesn’t make it a bad subject and that she shouldn’t have anything to say about Neville after his performance at the ministry a few months ago and Neville just stands there because that’s the greatest compliment Mcgonagall has ever given him

She's the most beautiful witch in the world.

From the time she gives all of them, including Draco, dentention, bets on quidditch matches with Severus, until she steps in front of her students ( all houses) in the great hall to face Snape. McGonagall's honesty and fierceness is the best of any character, ever.

THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS!!! We were robbed of a performance with Maggie Smith bringing that epic moment to the big screen! The meager discussion on the stairs had me in disbelief upon first seeing OOTP. Thank you, again!

-Quirrel was a pretty good teacher and if you consider hogwarts mystery part of canon, then he was muggle studies teacher for years before. -Lockheart was vain and annoying but most of the stories be told were true (other than the fact he wasn't in them) and the cornish pixie lesson would've been pretty on curriculum if it hadn't gotten out of hand. -Remus was smart, he taught all the things in the textbook but made an effort to make it fun. He also made most of the students a lot more confident in their abilities. Literally the perfect teacher. -For a literally half insane death eater, Crouch did a decent job. Students enjoyed his lesson for the most part and they did learn things. Other than lesson 1 where he was doing stuff specifically to scare 2 kids he hated, he was pretty decent. Whereas with umbridge they learned very little, all hated the lesson, and got no practical time despite having a practical exam that year. In conclusion, umbridge was definitely the worst DADA teacher mentioned here.

I completely agree, I feel Harry just got 'Auror' stuck in his head because at that age, everything for him seemed to be leading up to catching Voldemort, the darkest wizard of them all. I think DADA teacher would be way better, he's already shown he's good at it!

McGonagall was a true grfynndor she was brave and confident she wasnt afraid of anybody

Kudos to this one and only woman for playing almost every character in HARRY POTTER reboot and reducing the budget by 100 percent while maintaining the quality.

Damn, when even Lockheart is considered a more competent teacher!

I think Minerva was referring to Lupin. Lockhart wasn't evil, but he wasn't competent either.

I swear Harry sholdve named one of her kids after Prof MG instead of Snape lol cause she really had his back since day 1, buying him his first broom, making sure he makes it into being an Auror, etc.

Gotta love that Umbridge has got a Karen haircut, Never has a muggle stereotype so cleanly fitted onto a wizarding world character

McGonagall was one of my favorites in the books when i heared maggie smith was doing the character i can see why . Both can be sassy , cunning , loyalty, sweet , they are both amazing. Somethings though i did wish they put into the movies .
