I think the house is an icon. Houses do have a door, a roof and a chimney (but not all). The image resembles a house. If you don't think the house resembles real houses, then you can't say the bicycle resembles real bicycles, as many bikes do not resemble the bike in the picture.

@@Tedrio1 Me too. For me, an icon bears visual similarity to the represented, usually concrete visible items, while a symbol can be visually irrelevant to the represented, either certain tangible items or abstract ideas.

I think maybe she did that on purpose to illicit comments. Obviously the icons and symbols exist on a continuum. In this case the icon represents a house, which represents a home, which represents the root page of your application. Or is it an index for a UX designer?
