As a retired signal maintainer, I can tell you this is a very common and expensive problem. The gates usually get destroyed. Nice of the fellow to move this one.

The wire is short, the person put the arm on the sidewalk making the wire close enough for the counterweight arm to go all the way up

Not the truck drivers fault. He was past the stop line when the signals activated. The gates did not hold for the required time. In my area, gates hold for at least 5 seconds. The driver had no way of stopping in that time. If he slammed on the brakes, he would have still hit the gate.

Nate's Trains I know the gate lowers too early but you should always expect it for high speed trains, but also like you said it's not the drivers fault but it is

Here we go. I have to explain again. The lights activated when the truck was in the intersection. It is quite possible he didn't even see the lights when they came on, because he was so close. Stopping a truck with less than 15 feet is pretty much impossible. If he were to back up, he would risk hitting other cars, since he was on a curve. It was safest just to drive through.

In Slovakia, we got 30 seconds of ringing before gates falls down, why other countries are just 4 - 10 seconds?

Here in sweden the light go on about 10 seconds before the gates go down, so you have time to get off the tracks. I think it's a better design.

Also, if the truck stops at the middle of the tracks, then the truck would get collided with Metrolink. So the truck driver has no choice but to damage the crossing gate since he turns right and remember, driving this kind of truck is very risky.

It’s still attached with a wire providing a power end it does not turn off due to a breaker there is a breaker but it doesn’t turn it off because in this case it still needs to tell drivers there is a train coming

There is no breaker. The gate wires are 3 wires inside of conduit. Inside the gate mech they are split, eyed, and landed on individual terminals. Simple answer is the gate wire didn’t get broke or ripped out of the first light. Had it of broke or been ripped out, the gate would of gone dark but the mast lights would of continued to flash.

The gate on the railroad crossing is knocked off. The driver must be careful for it or face the consequences for something like this. However, the lights still work, even if the gate is knocked off. The screws are loosening.

Even if he was at fault, the 3 screws needed to reinstall the gate are probably a few cents each. Despite that, he indeed is not at fault. The crossing doesn't confirm to FRA standards.

Don’t see how you figure that one. Crossing looks 100% within FRA standards. Minimum 20 seconds of warning time. The gate caught the top of the trailer which is extremely common. End of the day it’s broke, an XH is placed, slowing trains down and keeping gates down longer due to warning times and train speed, until a maintainer gets out there and rehangs it

He damage the gate! He pays for it! It's the driver how did that!😊

As an NTSB investigator, ...sorry Charlie, the truck was moving before the equipment, gate arms did not hold for the required 15 seconds, and the train itself was speeding and overran the time settings on the grade crossing. Railroad eats the cost for failing to maintain equipment

The wire wasn't pulled off, But if it was it still won't turn off the whole crossing as the volts aren't high to the point it would kill you to touch it.

A wire is attached to the gate arm LED’s & the mechanism box. The wire was not cut off so the lights would continue flashing
