Your sound on the Supreme is very good. As a Mark VI tenor player, I would love to try one, but the v high price makes it unlikely that I would purchase a Selmer Supreme. I'm quite happy with my Mark VI.

You sound awesome as always. I'm a Keilwerth guy. I will still choose my nickel silver Keilwerth SX90R over the Supreme.

I agree with what you said about altissimo G, I tried one at the Selmer Paris showroom. Great horn, well worth the money, but I have 2 Mark Vl tenors. (Which cost almost as much)

The price is still lower than one would pay for a Super Balanced or Mark 6 in great condition . Finally they improved the tuning. And it has a new version of "The Selmer Sound".

Hi Dan! I made a video (English subtitled) about the alto supreme. I actually sold my longbow alto to buy the supreme. It played so much more easy and is so much more reliable, and also the sound is great I think. Not a mark 6, but it has definitely a very nice character to it. I also tried out the tenor version, and compared to my mark 6 (also with a KB sax neck) I did not find the gains so much, that I would switch. Also, because I am so attached to my mk6 and I would never sell that one. Probably, because the neck is so good on the supreme, the difference with a stock mk6 neck will be very noticeable. With my KB neck, all the tuning and resistance issues that I had are gone, so no need to switch in those cases. It needs more maintenance sure, but for me it is not worth the switch (yet). Great, great horn though! Brand new, but doesn't play like a regular new selmer. It already has an identity! Well done selmer!

Hi Dan, it does sound great. Even before you mentioned it my impression was that it sounds brighter than your Mk VI. However, the base version is literally twice the price of my Yani TW020 and I can’t believe it’s twice as good (although I know that’s not how things work). As a man who knows a thing or two about Yanagisawas, how does it compare - I understand it may be better but surely not THAT much better?

Have you tested the Nexus sax, mouthpiece?

That Supreme sounds great and it did seems as you said, it was effortless for you to play. It still has the core Selmer sound, but with more high frequencies in the sound and brighter than your MK VI but not as bright like a modern saxophones from the likes of Yamaha, Yanagisawa or P. Mauriat. You have played Yanagisawa and Yamaha saxes before, so do you know how the Supreme compares to those? If you get a chance, could you review the alto version?

The Alto version is on the way. The Supreme has a more 'Selmer' sound and feel to it than the Yani / Yamaha, it's more 'nimble' and lighter.

The bottom end sounds great! You sound fantastic as always and I'll wager that the ergos feel dreamy, slick, and lovely, but this definitely doesn't have what your VI and Yani do. Almost as if they stuck it somewhere between contemporary and vintage, sonically. Not what I'd call a sweet or creamy tone. I can only guess that they got the intonation so perfect they killed the character. I apologize if this is too negative, but that tenor sounds painfully neutral. Perhaps a different mouthpiece pairing would give it some much-needed zest. The $10,000.00 price tag is laughable knowing anyone can score a minty VI tenor for $5,900.00 and get a great setup by a great tech.

they better have non high F sharp models to attract the mk6 jazzers!......

I have played one and it simply is better in ever way to a Mark VI.

The supreme sounds wonderful. I like it compared to the Yani 01.

I tried yani 020 and supreme. Selmer supreme produces a warmer and fuller sound. The sound was so rich and plays so well easy that I decided to buy it. I was convinced to buy a yani but it ends like that.

I have been so amused by all this supreme tenor insanity. I love the Selmers sound but I have seen so many people spend $15k-$20k on an out of tune sax that is seventy years old, but complain about the price of a new well made sax. If Selmers sold the supreme at $7k your old out of tune sax may very well drop in value.

It’s stupidly ridiculous that you have to pay for it tremendous amount of money for a bit of a difference.But hey suit yourself

Agreed, 100%. I'd love someone to measure the bow, body tube, and bell to see if they're any different than the Ref or Super Action tenors

Not the sweet sound of older horns. Disappointing. Remake the vi and sba….that’s what people want.

IMHO it‘s a shame to put a cheap and, more importantly „not really excellent mouthpiece“ (tried to stay in the polite area) … on this tenor. It‘s a miracle that it still sounds ok … do you really own nothing better?????? Man …

@@DanForshaw Some products are simply not good. And not worth a try. Play the Syos side by side with a great Florida Link and (I hope) you‘ll hear + feal the difference. 😉 This is simply no good example of what the Supreme can sound like with a great setup. Chance missed … And don’t tell me something about the price tag of a Syos vs a great Florida Link … those who can afford a Supreme will not have to worry about that. 😉
