I still own and play the MKVI I purchased new in ‘73. That horn payed for itself a long, long time ago. So a young 20 something who plans on playing for 50 years, yes the price is worth it. Grandpa always said, “buy the best tool you can afford”. Folks dis’ing on Selmer, didn’t hear them complaining about the Yanagiswa TWO32 for $13K.

Nice looking horn. SML used an almost identical 4 point hinged neck receiver with a floating ring on all their horns since the 1930's. Great design. Nice that Selmer has finally adopted it.

Just remember what Selmer and "commercials musicians" said before SA 80, serie III, 36, 54. Where those "admirers" are now? I stopped thinking about Selmer after I saw " rast" on SA80. For me it's vintage Americans or two companies "Keilwert" and Yani, really good quality and guarantee almost for life!

As for the price, well it is all relative I suppose but beyond my reach. You are clearly a supremely accomplished player, but it might be nice, for future reviews if, instead of noodling, you could play extracts of some jazz standards or classical pieces to get an idea of how the instruments sound in different styles. Just a thought.

You have to take your hat off to Selmer - anyone else pricing their horns like this would be laughed out of the room. Literally TWICE the price of a Yamaha Custom or Yani WO10. Lets be clear - you are paying £4K+ for the label. If you are happy with that then all power to you. Personally, for 9000 quid I'd want it hand-delivered by Chloe Grace Moretz wearing nothing but a smile. Each to their own though.

@@HonestSaxSound-unEdited- I'm writing about a specific model, not about the entire catalogue of products. I can hear that Selmer's Supreme Tenor is more agile and consistent than Yamaha's 62 tenor. But Supreme Tenor is not as agile, nor as sumptuous nor consistent as the Atelier Tenor from Yamaha. And there are other great tenors by other manufacturers that can compare with Supreme. That being said, the asking price for Supreme is beyond ridiculous; anyone who is justifying it, is deaf, biased or preposterous.

Nothing of this explained in the video has any touch with reality - it was all fantasy lalaland. We do appreciate Selmer, but let's wake up and stop justifying the unjustifiable. Using the catch that Selmer "worked 12 years" on this, like it means something special? Does it mean other reputable manufacturers don't work as hard, or as long, or don't listen to the customers even better? There is no rational explanation for this tenor's asking price other than it's a ticket for "Selmer's fantasy train".
