Karen again I seem to have missed one of your videos. But I have been thinking about sending you an email for days because the sponge that you use from a cushion I have used several times because of you and your recommendation. What I was using it for were necklace stands that were black except they had a lot dust and stuff all over them. I was so surprised although I probably should not have been since you were the one recommending how great it was to use them. Anyway dusty yucky necklace stands are now beautiful and black and I can take great pictures with it. So to have seed this video right when I was going to email you and tell you how wonderful a suggestion from you was then I watched this. Lol also as an artist I usually frame all of my work. The one and only time that I actually shipped one of my pieces was so astronomically expensive because I went to Home Depot and purchased for frame quarters and then I had placed bubble wrap over the glass and wrapped and wrapped. Using this method was an astronomical cost to be because I paid for shipping and supplies. A few months after that this same person asked me to send another drawing that I had done but I had to tell her that I could not because I lost so much money in the shipping and supplies cost that I really did not think that I could do that again and lose money. So the pool noodles are only a dollar a piece at Dollar tree I will go get some and use them from now on for shipping. And I will also charge the buyer for the shipping. Again thank you thank you thank you for giving me so many great ideas over time. Keep on sending your wonderful ideas out for all of us. By the way I was at Goodwill day before yesterday and I found the most gorgeous driving shoes ever. Size 13 which is exactly what I wanted. I did not purchase them that day but I went back yesterday and guess what they were gone. So, am I a device to anyone that is thrifting in order to resell should pick up whatever the item is that you want and do not delay even one day. I am really sick about that but I definitely have learned my lesson. Karen, you are an inspiration and damn good at what you do.

my tip for mailing artwork. "tape the glass". in other words, I use painter's tape to cross hatch the glass. in the event that USPS decides to drive over it with a truck, the broken glass will be held together and may protect the actual artwork from being sliced. also, I stopped marking my items with only fragile stickers. I now also write GLASS on all sides. I think there is something scary about broken glass that is more to the point than just "fragile". so far so good anyway.

I always run comps before I pick a pair of shoes for re-selling. With the excepción of the brands that I already know sell well like Tory Burch, Old Gringo, Ariat, Cole Haan, Uggs, etc. I just sold a pair of ECCO hiking sandals in like new condition (were mine, slightly used); they sold on Poshmark for $50.

I too sale shoes and a lot of shoes. All or most come from Goodwill. However one goodwill in my town is now selling all men shoes $29 and up no matter what the condition. Half of the sole missing they still price it $29. They told me they have a sign in the back with listing of name brand men shoes and they price high regardless of condition.

Yes! The one work around is when I thrift in bigger cities, w/lots of stores. The reason being, they cannot move all of them online at auction, so many stores won't even pull shoes at all- for instance, every other store will, & not the others. So I learn which ones don't real quick!

Soooooooo informative. Thank you! May I ask you a question about your pricing? Is there a reason why you have all different cents amounts? Is it because they sold at a sale price? Or do you price lower than competition that way or is it a cost of good strategy you use to help you remember what you paid for the item? Just didnt know why you dont use 00 or 99 or something like that.

I’ve learned a few hard lessons by getting burned on shipping. I’m not selling shoes...yet, but may if I can find some good ones like the ones Karen finds, but I won’t hold my breath. On fragiles I often add 1 pound to the shipping weight, b/c I wrap them so well and I weigh carefully. And check over the EBay shipping calculator. Their program does a lot of auto-fills that may not be what you want. I know it’s not what EBay “recommends” but in order to keep the shipping price low, I have now started using Parcel Select or Retail Ground (not as fast as Priority) or if under 13 oz you can use First Class. EBay wants you to use Priority Mail, but it’s just too expensive for most of the price ranges that I sell in. I sometimes use Priority if something is a higher priced item & I’ll make a big profit. If a customer wants faster more expensive shipping, I will invoice them for the extra. Good luck!
