Selling My Audi S5 2014 - Review & Ownership Costs

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here's my review of the 2014 Audi S5 and what it's cost me to own this car for the past 8 months. Overall the car is fantastic, but has a few annoying flaws I address throughout this video. The repair costs are at the end of the video.
Must Know Tips:
-Budget about $1,000-$1,500 a year for maintenance and repairs.
-This Audi is actually extremely good on Gas getting 28 mpg on my long distance trip
-Tuning is super easy on this car (links below)

This is a great review. I have a 2013 model, not that many differences if any to the 2014 model. The car is very reliable and a lot of fun to drive, and to most people, it looks and feels much newer than it's age. The key is making sure you maintain it properly.

thanks for the vid. I have a 2013 S5 (volcano red). The funnest car I have ever driven. Fast and nimble. Magma gets a lot of attention and looking forward to upgrading her some more. The outside never looks outdated, but the tech on the inside can get out dated quickly. Adding RSNAV to my ride was a great investment to keep it more up to date.

I'm trying to decide between Mercedes CLA (2015), Audi A5 (2018) or Mazda 6 (2019). The cost of owning a German puts me off a lot, the general consensus online seems to be that they break down at some point, but I'm drawn to the badge and looks... where as people praise the Mazdas and the 6 actually looks sick - even though it's not a mercedes or audi. Thanks for your comment, going to test drive the Mazda and see if I like some Japanese quality over the German looks.

What year? Ideally 2013+ is what you’re looking for as those are most reliable for S4 and S5. The 2008-2012 S4’s and cabriolet S5’s had some tranny and engine issues. The v8 S5’s are great but need to be carbon cleaned every 50k miles or so and id recommend oil changes every 5,000 miles vs 10,000 miles. Idk about the S3 but in terms of reliability ur best bet is B8.5 S5/S4

Thats only a v6, my mate bought an 08 plate V8 version with a custom exhaust. Thats got 450hp+ as it tuned too. I personally had an A5 3.0tdi, it looked stunning but was dull to drive, handling was solid, very good grip but boring despite its power, which was plenty at 240hp. The s5 is faster, but otherwise similar, and i dont think its price justifies paying several thousand more than an A5. If you like these, get the 3.0tdi, its quattro, and with a set of 20inch wheels looks as good and does 40mpg combined, 50 on motorway. Cost of ownership is horrific for an A5, if anything goes wrong, bills of £1500 can be expected for a timing chain, clutch ect. Gearbox would be expensive. Service charges ridiculous, lightbulbs are £180 for a headlamp. Swapping parts requires coding, and that means paying for it, about £500 to swap rear lights, parts are not easy to get too. They cannot get aftermarket exhausts cheap, you have to get manufacturer oem, and thats expensive. A custom made one would be cheaper at that point.

2013 V6 Supercharged S5 is by far the way to go with these. The V8's are much slower plus have timing chain issues which can cost a fortune to fix, 8k+ not to mention tuning is out the window. Anything 2012 and under can have trans issues that cost 4k and under to fix. The 2013 S4/S5 B8.5 is the way to go. Performance, mods, reliability, anything else is an up hill battle guaranteed.

No European car is cheap to own. They are all very high maintenance and difficult to work on when compared to Japanese or Domestic vehicles. That Lexus is definitely more reliable and cheaper to own and will out last the Audi.

@@zzoinks I'd take a Lexus over an Audi any day. I can say this because I own both and Audis have way more issues than an Lexus. I have 260k Miles on my Lexus and not one single issue. Do routine maintenance and that car keeps going, the Audi not even close. All sorts of issues and shody parts on the Audi that are made of plastic that should be made of metal and do not last.
