Seliwanoff’s test is done to see the presence of ketose sugar usually fructose
Principle of Seliwanoff’s test
Fructose treated with HCL forms hydroxymethylfurfural, which reacts with resorcinol to form cherry red coloured complex.
Only ketohexoses react much faster under condition of the test
