Das Modell wurde im Maßstab 1:7,5 dem Original nachempfunden und ist in der Gesamtkonstruktion in Holzbauweise aufgebaut.
Somit erreicht die SR-71 Blackbird eine Länge von 4,80 Metern und ein Abfluggewicht von 36 kg.
Der Tankinhalt beträgt 10 Liter Kerosin und das Modell verfügt damit über eine Flugzeit von max. 10 Minuten.
Angetrieben wird das Modell von 2 Frank Turbinen mit insgesamt 32 kg Schub. Einziehfahrwerk mit Radbremsen, Bremsschirm wie beim Original.
Das gesamte Modellflugzeug ist ein Einzelstück und wurde in ca. 2.400 Arbeitsstunden (2 Jahre) fertiggestellt. Der Materialwert beträgt ca. 20.000 Euro.
Erbauer Walter Blaß (Vater), vorgeflogen wird die SR-71 von Matthias Blaß (Sohn).

    Oh MY! My favorite plane ever! I've witnessed a couple of these fly in person. This flight was completely reminiscent of the real ones! Piloted wonderfully - filmed impeccably!

    I suggest, using a smoother type of Servo for control. She's a beautiful Bird! Good job on her.

    I noticed a tipping point on the vertical axis. If there is such a thing… It also looked better as the fuel burnt down. To me it looks like the fuel was sloshing around, coward to aft. But I might be high….
