Self talk 3 - What Penny And Sheldon of "Big Bang Theory" can teach us
I like to use easy viewing TV and movies to educate patients about how their brains work int he context of managing their anxiety, sometimes called "Neuroscience-informed" treatment strategies. Neuroscience is a complex field and finding metaphors to see how treatments can be effective can be really useful. In this video, I use a running joke in the TV series "Big Bang Theory" where Penny and Sheldon interact to illustrate how to push bag against some toxic and maladaptive "self talk".

This is a HUGE help for me. Thank you. I have a flight - it's just an hour or so - in a few days and being a huge fan of the Big Bang Theory makes it easier to remember this. I've travelled internationally since I was a child, but I always had my parents with me. I suffer from a fear of heights but in the sky, that doesn't affect me much. I generally trust the crew and plane itself...its really my body's own reaction to take-offs that give me a world of anxiety.
This is great!
Thank you so much for making these videos. I really want to fly and travel more, especially with stuff starting to open up, but my fear and anxiety have gotten far worse in the last couple years. I recently had a two hour flight and was so fried from it that I wasn't sure if I could ever be able to fly again. Now I'm planning a trip with a far longer flight and feeling confident.

Good to hear you’re not giving up on your plans and dreams. Each time you do a flight see it as a an opportunity to learn about flying and yourself. Then apply what you’ve learnt to the next flight. Any unexpected events will always have an explanation.
