The American transcendentalist philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote "Self-Reliance" in 1841. One of his recurring themes is best expressed in this passage: the need for each person to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his or her own instincts and ideas. It is the origin of one of his best-known quotes: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen, philosophers, and divines."

Man the last 15 minutes felt like an intervention! I needed to hear this. Thank you
This gripped me from the very first sentence. It does cater to the self-reliant spirit of humans. THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM.
