When you say “Hey, someone call the police” there will be a delay. People will look around to see if others are going to do it. It’s best to say “Hey you, call the police” since when you narrow it down to in individual, they will feel obligated to do it. This eliminates the bystander effect

To everyone saying nobody will "let" you do this, thats why its called force. Stop worrying about finding someone of equal skill, just have the knowledge and practice it regularly and it very well could become useful. If I get tagged in the mouth while making an arrest thats fine, so long as the arrest was made.

I think that it would be better if you started slightly more to the left (5:53), that is, your center line not in line with his, but your right shoulder almost in line wth his right shoulder. Attack from a slight angle; he won't react as fast, since he doesnt see you exactly in front of him attacking, but suddenly from the side. This buys you fractions of a second till he figures out that he has to move/angle his body to be able to pull his arm away. I hope I explained it enough.

I do BJJ and my Coach (who is a black belt) taught me a much easier way out of this type of standing armlock. This is basically a Kimura Armlock, you see cops do it all the time. The only reason it works is because the person is resisting pushing back into the cop. If you just do a front roll, you can just roll right out of this armlock. It’s more complicated to get out of if you’re on the ground though. Before doing this you should practice doing front rolls, because if you roll over the top of your head you can hurt your spine. You should roll over your shoulder in a front roll.

Dear Gun Carrier - Loved this instructional video. Watched it today after I saw supermarket staff making citizens arrest on a shoplifter. My question is, what would be a good hold for until the cops get there.. Something less than a rear naked choke with hooks in? It could be a 10 minute hold you know..Or is that the way to go...? Something without beating him though... It was a teenager and skinny but strong...

As a former wrestler, basic BBJ and extensive street fighting I find this move very ballsy because you are placing yourself dangerously very close to the body of your opponent who may be able to strike or jab at you with the opposite arm and may even clinch on to you and both will fall together towards the ground......with your pissed off opponent probably on top of you. To me it's a dangerous and counter intuitive move that I would not recommend to anyone.

Ok, controlling one arm is great. I have a serious question though. What do you do when he starts jabbing you with his left fist and you are too focused on the right arm? I realize that if you can get the maneuver to the second phase, right before take down, that you are out of harms way for the moment. But if you dive in for the right arm, you leave your face wide open for a solid jab. Like I said, this is a serious question. I have seen where you have your guard up and "smoother" into the spot between the shoulder and neck, get an arm lock as well as the head, and pull a simple reap takedown, but this method you're showing seems to leave yourself open for a brief moment.

Really the only way to do this is if you’re fast enough to catch them off guard or if you get the on the ground with a kick or punch or whatever and then put them in that position so they can’t get up, I’ve put people in that position and I’ve been put in it myself and I can tell you that no matter how strong you are you can’t move the rest of your body cause it puts the arm on a pressure point and the more you move the more it hurts, even if the other person is stronger than you just pull harder and they won’t be able to do anything...also another pressure point is to grab by behind the ears and that will blur their vision and hearing a bit and they won’t be able to do anything, not sure why but it’s impossible for them to punch or do anything at all, I’ve also put people in that position and I’ve been in it too and I can tell you from experience

Please forgive me for the unfavorable comment. Having had lots of experiences dealing with the indiviuals wgho are the sum of the Earth, I believe that I have some authority in making these comments. May I suggest, that not every potential person is going to be compliant (definitely not). Please ensure that your hands are around your face to protect your head before you make these maneuvers otherwise you will be sure to get hit in the face. Please use a few distraction tactic. For instance open handed slaps to the face of knee to the thighs or groin. Then apply the technique and watch out for any intervention from other colleagues or bystanders. Otherwise, not a bad technique. Thank you for your video. Gary security officer Launceston, Tasmania.
