Quick update, select person and subtract object worked refining the mask on a scan of a black and white 1950’s photo where LR managed to differentiate between trousers and the deck chair behind the subject. This is despite the fact that the deck chair and the trousers were almost a identical shades of grey. Really very impressive.

Another great video Matt! Now please continue the episode with the "Refine Emoji" tool. I often have trouble refining my emojis to reflect precisely the correct emotion.

I was struggling with this very issue this afternoon trying to restore a scanned photo of my father in law taken in the 1950’s. Getting LR to get a perfectly refined edge was impossible. Will give the select person and subtract object method a go tomorrow. This may separate out the deckchair from his trousers!

As always a great tutorial. For hair selection, I have the opposite problem, The select subject does not select all the hair so I need to add it but it's not working with adding a background in this case.

Great video and Those options aren’t in Photoshop rt?

I wish wish wish Adobe would bring the auto mask functionality from the camera raw brush over to photoshop and have it as an option in quick mask mode. Or actually just an option for the brush tool in general. Why has this not been thought of? It would be, in my opinion, the most powerful selection tool ever. Select subject is always a bit ‘meh.’ I do a lot of cutting out of plants and it’s useless on them, way to many internal corners that it just misses even if it the most contrasty of obvious edges that a magic wand would see easily. I don’t understand how it can miss them if the magic want can see them 🤷♂️ the mystery of AI. But auto mask brush in photoshop would be the best.
