Ditto here, I have mine in my hand as I am watching this. Been using the 398 (don’t have the “A” model) since the 1960s. Reading light meters is almost a lost art today

I've had mine since 2015, I've taken it out maybe a dozen times, other than that it's been on the closet. It's really sticky when you try to use it. Sekonic said it's $125 plus shipping to clean, or $200 for a brand new one.

I asked Sekonic, what was the expected lifespan of the amorphous cell of the current L-398A and the answer was 10 years. :/

what? the official tutorial is wrong...you need to fit the black triangle to the footcandle number which the needle is showing

not when using the high mask in sunny conditions. u line up to the H (for high mask) .

Thanks! By the way, you're moving the orange arrow but not telling us why and it was confusing me, especially because you were moving orange and black dials at the same time and I thought my meter was broken, because it only moved the orange separately. I saw another video that solves the mystery, that the orange arrow is only for noting down a reading, while we take another, if we want to get back to it, so its like a Memory button.

How do you use this meter with variable neutral density filters that are attached to the front of my lenses?

The L-398A doest not have exposure compensation. When using fixed stop filters you would simply get an exposure readying and then open up how many stops that filter is rated for. If you know how many stops your variable ND is set to, then you would simply open up that many stops. This can be difficult if the filter is not marked.
