Would you consider a torque Multiplier Wrench, also maybe some penetrative fluid around the nut first? I have a load of old stubborn nuts to remove, all with the chrome covers. Looking into best method, concern i might snap the lug nut bolts
I'm starting out as a tech. This has been invaluable to me. Thank you so much for explaining and for mentioning that a bit of anti seize on the head will go a long way.

A great display of how a few minutes of patience is better than an hour of primitive brute force that destroys things. Yes I have my own stories of what was brought to me from seized wheel nuts. One of those was the deciding factor in never letting a customer assist me in any way.
I am impressed. I'm a Tool and Die Maker that works on his car and truck and I did not think about the taper being the problem. Thanks. Great video.
YOU ARE A REAL AMERICAN HERO. I thought all hope was lost until i watched this. Great trick.

Thank you so much! My husband did this after working on the rim for over an hour and it worked in minutes!!
You're the man! I've been fighting a stuck locking nut for a week. I hammered on a 19mm 12-point socket and it wouldn't budge, it just worked it's way off. Then I slid a 3/4 deep socket over it, banged on it with a heavy hammer and hit it again with the impact and boom - spun right off. I've been fighting that thing for hours before watching your video.
I always put anti seize compound on all my jobs. Make it easier for the next guy
Absolutely one of the best repair videos on KZread. Thank you
I was working on an 85 300zx that sat for 20 years, lug nuts were are all seized solid and even my biggest impact couldnt get em, found your vid and it took some meaty whacks from a small sledge but they came off after. Big thanks!

I am a fan of the torque wrench. In this case, dissimilar metals reacted with road salt. I never liked aluminum rims. My love for the torque wrench is the prevention of warped rotors. I learn from your videos every time.
Glad I found your video! After hours of frustrating brute force work on a stubborn nut, a couple hammer blows as you demo'd and it came right off! Thanks much!
For a whole week I'll try to get the lug nuts off my truck until I see your video today and it worked exactly the way you said it would so I want to thank you you're awesome thank you
Great video! I just wasted an hour with an impact wrench, an hour with a breaker bar, about a quarter can of PB Blaster, and two trips to my local auto parts store. Exhausted, I decided to call it quits for the day and was planning on getting a good nights sleep and then going back at it tomorrow with a torch, to heat the lug nuts. No doubt you saved me a couple hours labor, and a migraine , with this solution. Thank you in advance.
I am so grateful for your video explaining where the Lug is Really frozen. I spent over an hour trying brute force and extractors and was about to drill. Thankfully I took a break and found this video!! A sledge hammer, an impact socket, a breaker bar with a pipe extension and that lug was off in 3 minutes! Many thanks!

Hands down one of the best videos ever made. You sir are brilliant! Saved my weekend. Thank you
Worked like a charm!! After over an hour and almost passing out that damn lug is free. THANK YOU
Best advice to get off a seized lug nut!😀 I wish I had seen this soon before my lug nut needed a smaller size socket to come off.
This tip is going in my mental toolbox. Thanks a bunch. Two great tips for one vid!!! Well done.
Went to do brakes on my wifes Caravan and lug nuts were frozen solid. Found your video and POOF!! They came flying right off doing your trick THANKS!!
Thank you for a great explanation on what's happening to the lug nut
Great tip! Thanks for sharing Steve
I have seen so many Tire places put wheel nuts on with an M8 impact driver, then checked it with a torque wrench. They don't move, but goes click. Fools have way over tightened the nut. I use a Dewalt impact in the second setting, then torque to 90tr/lb.
UPDATE: Thank you, Sir! Your BFH concept worked perfectly! The two seized 7/8 inch lugs I finally broke free off my 2017 Jeep GC. Your attention to detail is greatly appreciated. SALUTE!
Thank you for posting and sharing your expertise! You are the best!
Thanks Man great advice-Happy days!!!
thanks for the great advice, I have just had the same problem and will now use your method
Going to try it. Was ready to change rear brake pads on my '07 F150 and I knew getting the lugs off was going to be the toughest part. Sure enough 4 came off with the air gun, one with a breaker bar and pipe but the 6th one wouldn't budge. Rounded it off slightly when the breaker bar and socket slipped off. Just glad it didn't break off leaving the taper like you showed. Tomorrow I'll use the dead blow and see if it works.
Sir. You are the best. Happened to me today. Saved me time and frustration. Thank you!
Awesome tip. Thank you for the post.
Excellent video. I've never had this happen to me, being a driveway mechanic. After watching this I'll definitely be cleaning them up and applying a little anti seize! I always torque them btw. Appreciate your videos
You just saved us a ton of hassle, thanks!!!
THIS video SAVED me! MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
This tip is worth a Nobel prize. Cheers buddy!
Just spent an hour w a small torch getting 5 lug nuts off on a HD truck, last three didn’t budge, tried this trick, easy off. Thanks wish id seen the vid sooner
Thank you great video . I have a jaguar that has the same problem . Lugs stuck won’t budge . Thank you for your video I will try it your way 🙏Thank you great video
Gonna give it a try - seems to be well worth it! Thanks!
valuable demonstration. I was thinking "HAMMER" all the way up to your first showing of the dead blow hammer! Steel wheels not generally a problem but alloys of aluminum are like a grip surface, promoting a physical locking of the nut. If you have an old car that has had many wheel removals you will note that the seat in the wheel that engages the nut will be washed out, the grinding of the nut when tightening causes an actual removal/displacement of the wheel alloy. I use a little lube on my lug nuts and do not tighten to excess. I never have used a torque wrench since starting wrench turning in 1965, snug up firm but easy enough that you can change a wheel with a cheap lug wrench.
Excellent tip. Thank you.
Sir… YOU JUST SAVED MY ASS. After trying everything for about an hour. I put the socket on the broken lug nut and hit it 4 good times with a hammer. Use the breaker bar and it came right off. Took less than 5 minutes. THANK YOU SIR!!!!!
Good advice, much appreciated. Thanks
A great teaching video. Thank you.
Kenny...I LOVE YOU!!!! SURELY i WAS GOING TO END UP MUSHED AND IN BIG TROUBLE. i TRIED EVERYTHING , even HEAT, BREAKER BAR AND FOR SURE i WAS GOING TO RUIN EVERYTHIGN....THE HAMMER ON THE SOCKET FINALLY WORKED...PRAISE THE LORD! OVER 2 HOURS TO GET OFF ONE LUG NUT BECAUSE THE LAST MECHANIC DID not APPLY ANTI SEIZE...Grrrrr I wish him the same problem! This is exactly why I am back to doing MY OWN BRAKE JOBS!

I have for years. As Kenny says, grease or anti-seize on the lug to wheel surface, not the threads. Also have put anti-seize on wheels after having to kick them loose from the rotor because of tight clearances/corrosion 'welding' themselves on. After wire wheeling the surfaces first.@@ChromeLuxx
Thank you so much for this video. I was needing to change my swollen factory lug nuts on my Toyota Tundra and you saved me a lot headache on this one. I had watched another video from a different guy who drilled his out. Your method was simple. Blessings to you!

I never knew this i always assumed it seized to the stud man great video i learned something new makes total sense
Thank you for the good tip here is one for you i would have used a hole saw over the stud done that before and if your lucky you will not mess the threads on the stud up😊 have a blessed day
great advice, thank you!
Two dissimilar metals contacting each other create the worlds greatest thread locker. Mother nature truly is amazing 👏
Thanks man ! Saved the day for me !
I've been in this situation on the side of the road .. the frustration was crazy .. tried everything .. fail after fail .. it's crazy how much trouble ONE stuck nut can cause 😂😂🏁
Good tip, I need to remember this one as it works on all nuts/bolts and can save them from breaking. Mayhew makes a pneumatic bolt breaker that I’ve used from time to time on stubborn fasteners that attaches to an air hammer and you turn with a wrench.
I've got one seized lug nut on the final rim of my 1986 F-150 (already swapped out 3 tires) and I've used a ton of WD-40 (that worked on the other lug nuts that were frozen on the other rims), & a ton of PB Blaster on this last frustrating one, so I'm going to try this out! I really want to do it myself rather than call AAA (none of my neighbors have impact wrenches or many tools at all - I have more tools than most of my neighbors), so wish me good luck!!!
And like u said, on my f150 the hex part did bust off. It sucked. You take care Kenny

Hi Kenny, had similar experiences as you describe here, whack socket with hammer and off she comes. Dammed alloy wheels look good but give me a steel wheel anyday particularly if it is on a 4x4. Also, if you deal with Toyota cars they use a very substantial nut with a generous shoulder that protrudes into the wheel deeper than most types, I find this quite superior to most popular designs. Great video as always fella, keep it up 👍

Great tip.
Wish I'd seen this earlier 😅 mine started twisting, hopefully can get it tomorrow without breaking. Had a feeling it was the base seizing, I put spray of fluid film in the wheel lug holes and of course on the back face before I remounted the rest of the wheels.
Greetings from northen Sweden and a fellow mechanic, more or less. Been working on cars, tractors, city buses, boats, ATV, snowmobiles. When lug nuts are not seized but the rim is,, air hammer, works on brake drums too. Sometimes when the rim is stuck I put the nuts back on by hand and drive the vehichle with tight turns, sounds like a gunshot sometimes when the rim comes loose. Stay safe and take care.

The lug cap just got loose, the reason why it worked because when he hammered the socket it press the lug cap back into place. Roadside assistance tech here.

I've been working on cars for over 30 years and this little tip was new to me. But boy did it ever work! And saved me from having to drill out and replace my studs! Thank you very much
This video saved most definitely saved me, extra frustration and paying a shop to remove them
This helped. After a day of WD-40 and enough force to shift the entire car, it finally came free. Hell hath no wrath like a stuck lug.

5 Star Chrysler tech, yep, Chrylers lugs and rims notorious for this problem. Torque lugs nuts to spec, and still when vehicle come back for next service, lug nuts difficult to remove. Doesn't help the cover on the nut because , the nut cover , cushions the blow from the impact gun. I had 3/4 impact gun ready for times like this. Another issue, the Chrysler rims corrode very easily, builts up corrosion between the rotor and rim contributing to the problem. I have to add, that, at the dealership, I ran bigger air lines and air fittings for all my tools than everyone else at the shop. Even though the dealership worked on passenger vehicles and light trucks.
As a manager of a tire shop one of the worst culprits for stuck and overnighted lug nuts are people over using electric impact guns they don’t torque anything they just run the gun to death
