    @John Smith - There were a ton of extensions during the "Great Recession." Not a good time to be laid off, not that any time is great, but that was a really tough one. The "you should get any job" line was BS, because employers hate to hire someone who is "overqualified," and conscientious people do not like leaving substantive facts off their resumes (like college degrees) on purpose.

    @John Smith I seem to remember that a republican was in office for 8 years when that happened. People just love to blame Democrats because they're brainwashed into making them scapegoats. Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if… We didn't love freedom enough. And even more - we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” ― Aleksandr I. Work is unnatural. Think about it. We evolved hunting and gathering, not doing 9 to 5 with chumps we can't stand. Modern work is inhuman.

  • @rshiva08

    @rshiva08

    6 жыл бұрын

    @drServitis Only partly true, because I believe the modern concept of working did evolve gradually, out of a need for survival (which included keeping good health and running your family). Think about farmers. Their work had to be done only when the sun was out. And it was a lot of work -- checking on the health of the crops, weeding out pests and weeds, irrigation, harvesting, ploughing, land maintenance, etc. etc. They needed energy in the morning, so they probably had breakfast and then began their work at approx 9 am. Probably got tired by sunset and then returned home for a hearty dinner and then bed. And this work had to be done, else he wouldn't be able to sustain his family and have food for themselves. So there you have it - a 9-5 job.

    Not true. It's just that most modern abstract jobs are shit.

  • @drServitis

    Well, except that modern farming, even ancient farming of land on an extremely small subsistence scale, has existed for only an infinitesimally small amount of time in human history, not to mention pre-human evolutionary history. So I stick to my original comment that any job with set inflexible time parameters is inhuman. We evolved to take breaks, sleep, frolic with family, etc whenever we felt the physical need to.

    The way it worked .... 20 years ago, you had to bring a list, like once every month to show jobs you searched for, Name of Jobby, Phone #, Position Applied...I would write mine down the night before, trolling the internet (yeah, it was painful back then, very few places to troll unlike nowadays). About 30 of us would listen to a lecture about the job market, then stand in line and that person would quickly scroll through our list, and sign off. Next. Next. The whole group was audited in about 5 minutes give or take. Nowadays, rumor on the streets, is that you have login every week online and tell them your job search - damn that's a lot of work - but hey, for an extra $600 a week (federal stimulus) on top of $600+ a week of state unemployment - damn straight I'd make shit up. Ain't like they can legally verify, or does any employer care to, or even remember you inquiring about that position ;)
