That chunk of debris (can't even call it dust) on the Pelagos crystal would drive me insane...in addition to it being completely inexcusable on a watch in that price range.
I love my SPB143. I catch myself just staring at the dial in awe. It's a keeper and I'll never sell it.
That's the comparison video I wanted for a long time! Thank you!
I would go with the Seiko. I have been looking to get an SPB143 for a while now. I have a large collection of Seiko divers and love them all. Your mileage may vary.
Both look great, but I'd go with the Seiko, as I prefer a date window.
I love both, but the 62mas is iconic.
The design aesthetic of the Seiko really hits home with me. I also have had bad luck with the 6R35 movement, but purchased this watch (actually second time with the 143) because I love the design and Rob did a spot check for accuracy. I’d recommend the Seiko even if it requires regulation/movement service you’ll still be ahead by a truck load of cash.

Agreed ... and at this stage of the game..I'm just far more focused on investing and growing my money rather than parting with it...haha
Thanks Rob! Have been looking at these two for a while now and this helped!
My 6r after a week on the wrist recently +4seconds (1 week). I would love to have both…
I have the older J version of the Seiko that doesn't have the small lume at the 3. I don't get people who hate on the bracelet it fine for me with no gap at the clasp you get even with some luxury watch. Edit: I got mine used last year in great condition for a smidge over $700

I agree. The one without the pip at 3 is undoubtably the one to get, if you can find it.
Hey! That's a great comparison that we don't usually see. I have the SPB143 and I'm also considering getting the Pelly at some point. It's nice to see them side by side. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
amazing how the tudor looks like a hockey puck, yet is thinner than the seiko.......
Easy: Seiko because it has more character in my opinion.
Its great that we have choices that both deliver excellent timekeeping at opposite ends of the $5000 price range
Awesome side-by-side! I’m a Seiko fan, wearing SPB143 this week. I love the looks of Tudor watches, from far above my price comfort zone. These mesh as similar size & colors. In my head, I also compare SPB239 to BB58 in the gilt look, SPB451 to BB58 blue, and black SPB453 vs new BB Monochrome. I’d enjoy seeing those pairings side-by-side if the chance occurs. Seiko is the addiction I choose to afford. Tudors are beautiful, from afar yet.
Very much appreciated comparison. I own the Pelagos 39 but have been eyeing that SPB143 for awhile. I think I prefer some of the more pricey 62mas remakes with less text on the bottom of the dial and domed crystals.. but anyways - thank you for making this video!
This is a good comparison. Between these two, Seiko wins on value. Myself I would choose something else. Thanks Rob for the video. ⌚👍

While the Tudor Pelagos looks so much nicer that Seiko is obviously the better value for the price. You could always buy yourself a Citizen Fujitsubo Diver with titanium bracelet for under $600 but it looks less polished compared to that Seiko diver watch.
When you did the loom shot on the Pelly the bezel didn't seem to loom up at all. I have all 3 42 mm Pelagos and they all have loom on the bezel.
Hi Rob, the exact thing to me with my Peli. I bought it from an AD in December. I got home and noticed a small white flake at the 2 o’clock. I spend a few minutes trying to rub it off. But checking under a loupe showed it was on the dial. The AD replaced the watch the next day so wasn’t too bad.
Hi Rob. Great video. I think Seiko looks a little larger because it may have a wider dial. They both looked great though. I also think you are showing quite effectively the diminishing returns between what $1200 and $4700 buys at retail. The loss hurts more on the Tudor as well. Props to you.
The spec under the crystal should not absolutely not happen to a $4600 watch never should go out the door. It should’ve been caught in final inspection. Are used to manufacture, medical instruments and the box with shipped to Germany they would open up the box. Take a few out take them out of the packaging and inspect them visually if they found so much is one fingerprint they would go 100% through every instrument in that box And I would hear about it if that would’ve happened, but it never happened. There’s no excuse for this to happen even with today’s quality control. They got visual inspection with cameras and computers. That should pick it up. It’s not a good sign. San Martin has a quality control problem like that. It’s OK it’s a $200 watch not a $4600 watch not excusable.
Good one Rob, both are Very nice watches, love the stunning grey dial of the SPB 143, my choice is the Pelegos i like Tudors quiality, the speck of dust under with crystal is a one off,as you said. 👍 Au
The 6r movement in my SPB313 runs 17-18 seconds slow per day. Pretty annoying. I don’t think Seiko regulates them.

I own 5 Seiko divers but the Tudor would be my choice between the two especially with that lume.
Always look at a watch before buying it, be careful and inspect it don’t let emotion get in the way of logical thinking. I own both of these and have contemplated selling my SPB143 but find they both fit a purpose as the pelagos is very much a tool watch where the spb143 is vintage inspired with more elegance…also, I can swap between bracelets and straps on the SPB easier than the pelagos.
Solid comparison. I would pick the seiko at this size too.
Although the Seiko is thicker than de Tudor, it doesn't look that way because of the "massive" looking sides of the Tudor. I find that plain ugly. The Seiko looks much more refined with its beveled sides.
I have the SPB143 and a pelagos 42. Iove them both. The seiko wears so damn nice.
I'd go with the Tudor case - Tudor bracelet - Tudor movement - Seiko dial (but with no date) and Seiko handset. Oh.... and the Seiko price, please. 😁😂
Here the thing you can get the spb for $700 used $870 new. The price difference puts these so far apart it’s not really fair to compare. The Tudor no doubt is a better watch but at that price range for a couple grand more now you are in Rolex territory where with the seiko for two grand more you still aren’t even in Tudor territory. If you truly value your dollar it’s tough to not choose the seiko. If you want a better movement and possibly the prestige and ok with spending 2k more then get the Tudor or save and get a no date sub.

I have the Tudor 39 and the SLA043 8L35 movement. I love both but the 39 is more comfortable for everyday I forget I have it on.
I’m currently having trouble deciding if I want the Pelagos since I own the 143. My mind can’t comprehend a “tool watch” costing 4k and is easily scratched. I’d be too worried about it but last year I tried one on and it felt too light and almost cheap feeling because of it but then I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since 😂
The larger Pelagos with date is the perfect everyday watch.

Obviously the Tudor is the better and higher luxury watch, BUT considering the similarity in looks and size, this is a great comparison. I own the 143 and it’s a pleasure to wear on wrist. Easily one of the best divers Seiko has ever made!
Both very nice watches, pity about the scratch on the bracelet of the Tudor :/
I learned ( the hard way ) a while ago to inspect EVERY aspect of the Watch before purchasing through a Dealer . That qualifies as a Warranty Claim that may or may not be honored by Tudor ; depending on the date of purchase . That requires opening the Case , Removing and Replacing the Crystal , Gaskets and High Pressure Testing . Also , a Time-Graphed verification . Not going to happen , unless it goes back to Tudor for a do-over . Get thee to you AD ! Must have been painting at Tudor that day . My guess would be a shade of White 😂 $3.1 K for a Flaw with a Watch around it ?
Solid choice
How can you compare a SS watch vs a Titanium one as equals though? The wearing and feel are completely different. Titanium is so much more comfortable as you said. A better comparison would be San Martin's Pelegos 39mm in the SS version. Has a date and micro adjust too. Makes the pricing question interesting that way also.
Seiko is the better value of you get a good 6r movement but personally I prefer a uemura cushion case with crown at 4 o'clock on a seiko. The spb143 and all its incarnations are pretty safe and dull imo.

I would like to see the comparison with an SLA 62MAS against the Tudor. The 8L35 movt and finish much nicer than the SPB and still far less $ than than the Tudor, but at least in the same class. No question for me, its the Seiko. Your thoughts?
I think the comparison makes sense. The Tudor is a better watch but enough to justify the price? Ehhh
Ouch, I was waiting for some bezel action… Maybe in another video.
Oddly compelling comparison. I guess I never really put them in the same category, (In my head at least) because the Peli is titanium. So, what's my takeaway? (and hopefully Seikos, too) They need to do a Titanium 62 MAS! If the Citizen Barnacle didn't get that message across; surely this should! 😅
At those prices I would go with the Seiko. When one gets over 2.5K, the Longines Hydroconquest GMT is hard to beat. What model is the yellow Seiko on your wrist?

Seiko "5 GMT" yellow, SSK017

I could never spend over 4k on a watch and then be happy knowing there's dirt inside the crystal. Something like that is honestly unacceptable and would send back immediately
The 143 looks better to me but the Pelagos is the better watch. If the 143 was more accurate, I'd pick one up.
I don't get the difference in price to a Tudor from many brands such as Chris Ward or Zelos and on. Too much difference for a "name". A local owner also had dust on his Pelly dial. The AD said "well, it's not a Rolex". Huh?
I love the Tudor but, given everything Rob has mentioned, I would go for the Seiko as it is cheap as chips to have serviced. P.S. Why Seiko doesn’t sign their crowns is mind-boggling… it will cost Pennie’s to do that, if at all.

Good comparison. Personally I do like the dial on the Peli just a wee (and I mean just a wee bit) bit better, there would be no way on this planet I would pay multiples more for it over the Seiko so the SPB wins hands down. Plus the slab side on the case of the Tudor seems like such a lazy design.
You can HEAR the difference between the 2 watches . Everytime he moves the Seiko all you hear is bracelet rattle . With the tudor .. there's absolutely no sound.. typical Seiko bracelets

@@kingofpentacles3213 I would even accept 3 herz if it was a reliable and somewhat accurate movement with moderate positional variance. But it is literally none of those things. The Tudor has a superior movement,AIAEC. The 6R35 is a joke for accuracy, even when regulated. It’s a glorified 4R35. The real comparison would be between an SLA with an 8L35 and the Tudor. Then both have a 28.8k movement that have been regulated.
