I am a big fan of the new Alpinists eypecially the reinterpretation. I hope Seiko will bring more old models back like this. They did a great job with Divers recently.

Appreciated review of a somewhat elusive timepiece rarely seen in the wild. Have heard many complaints about the lack of Alpinist logo on dial, but it’s still a great mid century design and something that could make a great travel watch. Few might notice it except for the educated wearer and those who know.

I love this watch and wish I could afford it. My AD has one last one in stock.

I have this watch and really love it. It's a bit smaller than I would normally buy, but wears very well on the bund. The finishing on the black dial is the real hight point. Luckily all the negative reviews regarding the date window and the lack of 'Alpinist' on the dial meant I picked this up for £1000, box and papers! The time keeping is superb, no more than a couple of seconds a day on mine. I'm wearing it to bits at the moment.

I'm a big fan of the Alpinist serie, I own 3 of them including the SARB017...This one is nice, yes, but there is nothing justifying the price tag here; No signed crown, no COSC equivalent precision range, no sandwich sapphire...I mean, for the price I'd rather get a Tudor Ranger, a used Northflag, a King Seiko, an Oris NY Harbour, or even 3x other "normal" Alpinist. Seiko is totally out of his mind with this one.

So lovely, but why have Seiko spoiled it with a date window !

In a way I agree, but somehow while wearing it you wont notice the date window because of it’s subtle implementation. Only when u need it …. It’s there

@@OverwindWatch Thank you for your reply Unboxer. The answer from Seiko would be one with and one without a date window. That would keep the enthusiasts - nerds like me happy :-)). However, in 58 years of watch enthusiasm I can never ignore a date window on a 'classic watch' regardless of it's subtlety. ;-(

Sadly but yes, though Seiko botique here in Sydney may have stock because last time I checked they have one on display. Try their website though

Its about 52mm diameter or 150mm in circumference, really slender one

Very nice. But honestly the date and where it’s placed almost entirely kills the design. This would be a better watch than the Explorer had it been chronometer rated and had no date. 6L35 is also the most entry level Grand Seiko movement which in my opinion does the history of this watch injustice. This deserved a full Grand Seiko movement. And the fact that they made a cheaper more faithful version sorta sucks. Of course this version is more elegant but still.

So BORED of people whining about a date window,it's a TOOL watch,a date complication is a USEFUL feature,just grow up and stop bitching

Beautiful watch but the price and date window are difficult hurdles. I’ll take the Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic over this one.

@@deanwaller8283 I don’t care for date windows or metal bracelets so I don’t buy them. Lots of people want both. Not complaining, people buy what appeals to them and there are plenty of choices out there.

If u mean the sapphire crytal, kind of yeah, but if you are wearing it wont bother u much, in fact u may like how it plays with the light specially the curve side

It's very hard for Seiko to omit the date disc if the base movement has one.

yeah-yeah, but Seiko accuracy compared to swiss brands in the price range is still shite ... I'll pass.

Well u have to remember the history that Seiko nearly killed Swiss watch industry and Grand Seiko won all the competitions for accuracy at their own backyard.
