Seiko Black Monster SKX779

Ойын-сауық

After searching for the right Seiko diver, I settled on the Seiko Black Monster. It completes a four watch collection I currently have, functioning as the "tooliest" of my tool watches.
Thank you Random Rob and J. Anthony for their plentiful videos on the Monster and its greatness.

I started my Watch Obsessive journey with a Seiko Monster, a gen 2 "Dracula" version. It was my very first automatic and I liked it so much I got an orange variant just a couple months later. As many have noticed, Seiko appears to have lost interest in the series and gen 1 and 2 Monsters are rapidly appreciating in price in the used market. NOS has risen to stupid levels. They are definitely an acquired taste. While I have an SKX007 with the 7S26 movement, I still prefer the 4R36 seen in the gen 2s (as well as the current Turtle and Samurai) due to hacking and hand-winding capability. Will Seiko ever make a gen 4 Monster? Nobody knows but in the meantime any enthusiast interested in these Forum Darling watches should strike soon before the prices rise to insane levels. Nice review, Dave. You have captured the attributes of the watch quite nicely.

Another great video Dave. Thanks. I don't have a monster but I do have the SRP637 which looks a like your monster but with the shroud. Like your monster my "Baby Tuna" looks much much nicer in person. And I am also like you I hate those shark teeth monsters.

I looked long and hard at the Baby Tuna as well. What would be great is a Baby Tuna where you could remove the shroud if you wanted without there being some gaping holes in the case.

I still wonder why people are obsessed with this watch. = ) The dial is just too small and crowded looking for me. Though the all-metal bezel is nice, a lot nicer than the more colourful ones.

Pentti Jakonen - I didn't keep this one too long. I was surprised at how small a "monster" is. I thought it would make for a good rugged weekend watch, but I just couldn't bond with it. But those who love their monsters love their monsters!

Thanks for taking the time to write a reply! Well, now you know it's not your thing. = ) I do love Seiko though, I have SNZG69J1 as a work watch, seems like the price has gone up on eBay from the time I bought it by over 50%. My better watch is Presage SSA303J1, quite a step up from Seiko 5 I think. Definitely looking to get a higher end watch too, this or next year. So many options...

@@traviskoh999 Sad attempt. First, I sold it a couple of years ago. Second, it doesn't have a following like the one in video. Kind of the point of my comment...

@@penttijakonen3817 you not understanding the following has nothing to do with the followers. So your point is moot at best.
