Sehwag's Boxing Day onslaught | From the Vault

Спорт

The all-conquering Aussies were left dumbfounded by an epic Boxing Day onslaught from Virender Sehwag at the MCG in 2003. The Indian opener crashed 195 on day one to launch India into a commanding position at stumps.

Having the top score doesn't necessarily make it the best performance in the match. Yes, Ricky Ponting scored a double century in their first innings, but it took him almost 450 balls. Therefore, some performances are deemed better despite not having the highest scores.

@@Detective313"Undoubtedly, Man of the Match was Ricky Ponting , who amassed 706 runs in the series, emerging as the highest run-scorer. Rahul Dravid, with 619 runs, held the distinction for India. Interestingly, though Ponting outshone with the most runs, it was Rahul who was adjudged the Man of the Series. If the same criterion applied as in the Boxing Day Test for selecting the best player, Ponting, being the top run-scorer, should have been the recipient. The rationale behind Rahul receiving the honor remains a curious aspect."

I started to watch test cricket to see his batting...if any player of his era who change the match scenario in one session, its sehwag...the best opener in test cricket i have ever seen...his strike rate of 84 and average of nearly 50 is highest for any opener in test cricket

Super cameo 36 or whatever he got, before being stumped. Went up a gear after being stumped. I guess if someone gives you a chance - even if it's the 3rd umpire - you've got to take advantage!
