    Ouch! On my G2 Max, at 527.7 miles, I took a nasty spill. This scooter has been a great investment for me. I have 531 miles in so far. I live in northeast Texas. Small town. After 81 days of ownership, I fell really hard. This is a tough scooter. I hit the sidewalk at about 19mph. A slide. Brand new sidewalk. Mud on both sides. The sidewalk turned, I cut it way too close, way too fast. The front wheel went in. I went over. On my hands mostly. But gloves saved my hands. Helmet saved my head. My face was in the grass. My sunglasses were scratched. And the knee pads were at the house. Road rash hurts. Just above knee. I am so glad your videos include safety equipment. And I am glad for the helmet and gloves. Shorts and a tee shirt is no protection. Like I said before, I have 531 miles on this scooter. First fall. This scooter is solid. A tough, well built machine. No noise at all. This thing hit hard. I was about 3 miles from the house when I fell. No damage to the scooter at all. I rode it home. It flipped and hit. I went from a standing position to face first sliding on the sidewalk. Ouch! I am looking forward to my next ride. Spring rains are the only thing keeping me from riding it to work daily. It is a fun machine. Worth every penny. 22mph is fast enough for me. This body does not bounce like it used to. At 64, I learn as I go. Always had good balance. But knee pads would have protected more of me. Next time, I will have them on for sure. Thanks for your videos. Your advice saves lives. Ride safe.

    My goodness. Glad you were able to walk away from that. Road rash is definitely a pain. I took a spill back in April on an electric skateboard at 28mph. Glad I had a helmet on. Didn’t have any pads on so I paid for that with some awful road rash. Hopefully you’re all healed up and back to riding.

    One thing I am missing is the issue of weight. The suspension and long range comes at a cost as the scooter weighs 24,3kg or 53,5 lbs. If you live in an apartment building and have to take the scooter up multiple flights of stairs you gonna notice that rather quickly.

    Oh for sure. That’s where something like the KQi3 Air comes in. I look forward to the day when battery tech leap frogs and we can have something with the weight of the Air but the power to tackle hills and hit 28 - 30mph. And a nice low price tag haha.

    Great review my dude, i just got done doing my own video of my Max G2 as well and definitely noticed that reduction in Speed and Torque, for me the drum brake is not so great and doesn't seem to make a full stop unless i hop off the scooter. Im not sure if its just my MAX G2 or if anyone else sees the brake cable a little too long and thats why the brake cant be fully adjusted where the line doesnt look like its inches away from reaching the ground? But mune sure does look that way. 😅

    I had no idea there was a dashboard mode. That would make for a great shorts video ;) I personally managed to get 27KM with a healthy dose of stop-and-go's at 240lbs. I did not get any high-temperature warnings, but it took a very long time for the motor to cool off before I could charge the scooter. I got super anxious thinking I broke it after my first big ride.

    Ha! Good idea 😃. Yah when you launch the app and connect to the scooter, click the scooter image and select dashboard. It’s got lots of useful info there. I use it on all of my longer rides. The cool off feature is great because it helps ensure as safe a charging environment as possible, but Segway doesn’t really tell you about this. I too thought something was wrong with my scooter after my first long ride back in July haha.

    Hey, Thank you! I don't have any experience with the F2 Pro, but based on the spec sheet and what I've read, it's got many of the features of the Max G2. What it also has that the Max G2 doesn't is disc brakes in the front, which are absolutely an upgrade over the front drum brakes the G2 has. Drum brakes are generally less maintenance, but don't have the stopping power of disc brakes. It's also much lighter than the Max G2 which will make it much easier to transport when you're not riding it. It doesn't have a rear suspension but it does have a front shock absorber, which is much better than no suspension at all.

  • @tomsgadgetgarage

    11 ай бұрын

    Hey! One thing I’ve noticed about a lot of E-Scooters is the display brightness, or lack there of. I’ve read reviews of other scooters and it appears this is somewhat of a common issue across the board, with a few exceptions. I definitely agree that it could be brighter as I’ve had to work a bit harder to decipher what’s on the screen when riding in direct sunlight, which could be distracting. I’ve switched to using the dashboard mode in the phone app as it gives more detailed info, specifically temperature which I’ve been most concerned about given posts from people about overheating issues. I will add this to my extended review that I’m in the process of writing up. Good call out :)

The GO and the 300X do have faster acceleration, but word on the street is that Segway is releasing a turbo mode in a future update which should improve acceleration.

Because the ninebot max can reportedly only get about 13 miles. and on other range tests on the g2 max, i've seen that many people get about 15-16 miles on a single charge. my niu max can only get about 11-12 miles on a single charge. how is this possible?

    Thank you! So for the main parts of the ride I was driving anywhere from 16-19mph/25-30kmh in sport mode. The average speed for the whole ride was 15mph. If I drove at max speed (22mph/35kmh) for the entire ride, distance would have been less. Also, there was very little stop and go as I had many uninterrupted stretches to ride on. If there was more stop and go, I would have had to accelerate more often which would have resulted in less range.

For example, here in Arizona you’re allowed to use an e-scooter in the bike lane, but in my city/town, they actually forbid you from using the bike lanes. They would rather I ride 20mph down the sidewalk used by pedestrians.

    Honestly people should make a way bigger stink about the 1.4.8 update... I'm happy you mentioned it, but it's way worse than "lost a bit of acceleration"! Lots of people (myself included) have noticeably lower range, top speed and acceleration after the update. 1.4.4 had already done a great job of managing overheating - but 1.4.8 completely neutered the scooter. It's so bad a lot of enthusiasts are looking into buying replacement controller in the hope they're on older firmwares... Such a shame they did that.

  • @tomsgadgetgarage

    @tomsgadgetgarage

    Acceleration and the loss of medium regen braking were the first things I noticed. I am still able to make the 22mph top speed, although it takes a couple seconds longer to get there. I do plan on doing another range test to see if I can still get 31-ish miles in sport mode. I definitely agree that losing the acceleration sucked. It seems all of this was done to reduce overheating. At 195 lbs I’ve never once experienced overheating so it kinda sucked to lose some performance. Hopefully we can get some of that back in a future firmware update.

  • @tomsgadgetgarage

    @tomsgadgetgarage

    Hey! Without gear you’d be fine. They’ve fixed the overheating issue some users had experienced with multiple firmware updates. I’ve ridden this scooter here in the blazing Arizona desert heat with not a single instance of overheating. In terms of your weight with gear at 150kg, you’d be outside the recommended weight limit of 120kg and will likely experience drastically reduced braking power as well as lower acceleration, top speed, and hill climb ability. I would honestly recommend something with more power if you plan to ride at 150kg. Those types of scooters will cost more but you’ll have a much better experience.

    Is there a place for your nunchucks and magic the gathering cards to be stored, while you go cruising?

    LOL! Magic the Gathering, haven’t heard that in years haha. Unfortunately not so much, need to attach a bag to the stem or thrown on a backpack.

    Thanx for the video! For potential buyers: If your weight more than 85kg and you have incline in your driving way more than 15% (percent) - avoid! You wont make it up.

    If you plan on riding super steep hills for long distances, I’d recommend a scooter with dual motors or a single motor with significantly more output. For light to moderate hills, the Max G2 does a great job.

    too bad it didn't come with an adjustable handlebars bc the handlebars sit too damn high. i´m 163cm

    For sure. Adjustable handlebars would definitely be a plus for people of varying heights as well as for comfort in general. Even someone of the same height might prefer the handlebar higher or lower, similar to a car seat.

    I don’t like the idea of an internal power supply when charging a scooter. If it blows, it’s a lot more of a pain in the ass to replace that rather than just a chargers with an external power supply

    That’s a great point. Prior to the Max G2, I bought an NIU KQI3 Max and the first thing I noticed was the external charger got very hot and was clunky. Definitely like the idea of a simple cable, but you’re absolutely right, if the charger goes, that means opening up the scooter to address it rather than simply replacing the charging brick.

    There's also a normal charger port, so you can still use external chargers.
