I was on the fence about getting one of these. Leaning heavily towards getting one. The tipping point was during your cartridge test, When it ran Virtua Racing with no issues. While I do not own the game, knowing that it runs the most difficult game to emulate via software on a PC, and runs it through hardware emulation immediately spoke to me of the effort put into this clone. I am currently awaiting mine to come in the mail.

If you don't mind, I'd like to explain the flickering on Sonic's shield. The flickering is actually what happens in game. It alternates between being visible and invisible (the ring around the outside and the centre alternate), on an old CRT TV it'd create the illusion of translucency (though not perfect, there was still a bit of flicker even then). The reason you can't see it on your Mega Drive is because your TV is doing certain types of processing like de-interlacing (notice how when using composite on your Mega RetroN HD the shield appears to have 'scanlines' on it). Some old TV signals would send half of the lines (alternating on and off) in one frame, then the other half in the next frame, and the TV would quickly alternate between them, and generally when a modern TV receives what it thinks is an interlaced signal, to avoid flicker it compares the two frames and sort of merges them. The shield shows on one frame and not in the next, and your TV renders a translucent shield. Those 'scanlines' the shield appears to have are because of the de-interlacing, remember it assumes half the lines are from one frame and the other half of the lines from the next, and it sticks them together. There's your useless information for the day!

Yeah I was surprised with his comment on Sonic 2's shield, it looked perfectly fine to me. It's the way its supposed to look like, no scan bars on the outisde. The shield on the Retron is more accurate than the original Mega Drive via Scart to HDMI adapter. The original console isn't in question of course, it's either the TV like you said or the RGB to HDMI scaler that doesn't properly convert the signal.

Out of this World - Keep running left from the beast but you must remain ahead of him, it's all timing, past the screen where you emerged from the pool, you come to a cliff edge where you jump and catch a vine while the beast plummets to his death. I completed the game back in the day, requires precise moves, timing and memorization but yeah it's pretty tough. The true sequel is Heart of the Alien on SegaCD fyi, it even contains the original.

The power base converter does work but only in composite output. The design of the power base blocks so of the connections of the Mega Retron HD, but if your willing to take the power base converter apart, it works with the PCB pass through connected to the MRHD. The best way to play your SMS games would be to pick up the Stoneage Gamer's PowerBase Mini.

In out of this world, when the monster comes down, you run immediately without stopping, and when you get to the cliff, you have to jump at perfect time to get a vine, then swing back on and run in the other direction

This is one of my all time classic, first played it on the Amiga 1000 back in the day. This game has been ported to hell and back and Im a sucker and played most of them, only on a few occasions in the 20+ odd years this game has been released I have managed to finished this game with one life!

This is a good little system. I bought it a few months ago and use it almost everyday.

The reason you didn't have options like filters in this system to see the price. Other fpga systems have tons of options

Does it work with Dungeons & Dragons Warriors of the Eternal Sun, Greatest heavyweights, and Shadowrun?

Wow thanks for the review, I've been looking at this console for a while now and thought I was the only one who noticed the screen looked "fuzzy" or not sharp in footage when compared to the originals. I guess this is a minor issue to most? For me though I constantly feel I have to squint to see the clear break of the pixels.... I think I might need to wait for the Sega Mini or just get ready to unload $200 on the Mega SG 😔 The Flashback to me seems to have the clearest visuals but everyone seems to hate it.....

Love the Sonic background music. Love that soundtrack

Dose the 196 in sega Genesis games in one works in the Mega Retron system?

So this DOES work with the sega powerbase converter...but kinda had to disassemble it to get it to fit and still plug in the retron, so i assume it'll work with the mini powerbase and be much simpler to use. One caveat is the colors are messed up unless the console is set in PAL mode, at least over hdmi, but then the speed is off. I got same results with the Mega Everdrive, PAL mode for SMS games, I only tested over hdmi though.

Should be able to use game genie as an extender possibly to avoid taking apart but it will look really goofy.

I was trying to purchase this controller and add the 8bitdo md mod kit make it wireless. However, I wasn't sure if this one has the same inside or not. I own 3 md mod kit so that's why I want to try adding it to a similar controller design. I just wish you would disassemble the controller for people to look at the inside.

can u use a Power Adapter to play Master System games on it????

I bought this and im happy, even though it doesnt play the cutscenes in Toy Story correctly. And the sound is a bit muffled.

It'e AMAZING how many games there are for the Sega Genesis. I'm 28 years old, been playing Genesis games all my life, and have been searching for games and watching reviews on Genesis games all my life, and I've NEVER seen this game! That's just crazy!

You're into playing retro video games, and you don't know that modern flatscreen displays, can have their aspect ratios changed, in their "Picture" settings menu? For those that don't know what I'm talking about, I mean it would help his composite video input's aspect ratio.

No game save states work Only regular game saves work unfortunately.

I paused the video at 12:11. It looks like your original Sega Genesis needs new capacitors installed.

Anything but the original hardware is considered a form of emulation. This system would be considered hardware emulation.

Big point out moment this clone plays "Virtua"Racing" , almost no clone can do that this must be "FPGA" , ,only way more affordable, , , this system is a blessing ,drop to your floor and kiss that carpet and say thank you Mega Retron HD , ,far better than Genesis 3 console wich can't even run Virtua Racing at all , , yes Retron HD is a godsend be amazed and thankful for it , , ,🙏🤯🤩

Wrong the 2018 flashback is way better than this.
