I hope you don't mind but I'm going to use this pinned post to ask you to take part in our 2024 calendar by submitting your photos of games from your collection. Here are all the details, thank you so much! This post contains everything you need to submit your photos. To date we've raised £19,532 for good causes, and 100% of money raised will once again go to charity this year. Let's get to it!... The topic this year is "Boxed Games". Celebrate the art, manuals, media and the physical joy of a boxed video game. Get creative with your setting and arty with your photos which are: 📷1920x1080 minimum resolution 📷Landscape aspect 📷Space around the subject for me to crop if I need to Send your photo to rmccalendarpics@gmail.com ASAP Final deadline for submissions Friday October 6th. Let's talk about this year’s chosen charity which is a very personal choice this year so I really hope we can make a big difference. Cirencester Opportunity Group is a local playgroup enabling children with special needs to play and learn with other children www.opportunity-group.co.uk/ I've been volunteering at COG every week with the awesome kids there as part of our adoption journey 🤗 Their support has allowed me to spend time with so many brilliant children and to share my experiences with our Social Worker in building a case for the board to approve us as adoptive parents. We still have a long way to go but will be forever grateful to COG for their help. Thanks to our printers @1clickprint for printing the calendars, and @heberltd who are helping with distribution this year. If you'd like to support COG and help me, say thank you then please take some awesome photos, send them in and support this year’s charity calendar. It was 1997 and i had a super nintendo and a Game Gear with tuner i borrowed from my neighbour. Took a wire with chinch socket, put one side in the SNES and the other side of the wire i exposed the middle and wrapped it arround the Sega's TV tunner, and voila we tuned in the channel and played Mario Kart on that tiny screen of the game gear. This would probably still work today. Keep these videos coming!

What a bonkers collection. I had no idea most of these consoles existed. I recognized about half of them. I would love to have half of the Nintendo consoles he has. And he has all the boxes and manuals and everything. If I had tbe money to be a collector, this is what my collection would look like. No mods, all like new and complete in box. Man, what an awesome collection. But I would have a lot of them set up ready to be turned on and played instead of in a glass case.

The GameGear TV tuner can work with any RF outputting console or VHS player. It took a lot of sticking my finger out at the correct angle but I eventually dialled it in to the point where I could watch a tape playing downstairs on my GameGear in my bedroom. Picture quality was rubbish, sound was foul but it beat smartphones to the media consumption game by at least a decade and a half.

Regarding the Atari 2600: I know there were a couple re-branded versions of the console. Here in the U.S., Sears put their own brand called Tele-Games on the machine. I had the Coleco Gemini which was an Atari 2600 in a tighter, more compact gray case. It came packed with a port of Donkey Kong.

I didn't realise that Neo Geo games were THAT expensive, wow. I suppose the logic was that you were paying for arcade quality to play at home. I had forgotten what the original Xbox looked like, I think it is the best looking one (my brother had the 360 and I think he now has the Xbox One). I agree that the Japanese Sega box art is superior to our British/European ones, I never had a Sega console but the strangely spartan and uniform backdrop that dominates every case made them seem almost indistinguishable from one another at a glance, and quite the antithesis of the colourful and exciting games found within the box. I suppose that they chose that design as a way of making the Sega section on the shelves stand out, and perhaps to give the whole range of games a common identity. But if that was the intention, one would think they'd go for something more engaging and colourful than that bland grid of thin lines over a white background.

There is a bit of difference between the PC engine and the Core Grafx consoles apart from the AV and stereo out on the Core Grafx consoles. The Core Grafx 1 has a slightly altered CPU which fixes some sound issues apparently. The Core Grafx 2 actually reverts back the CPU in the original but has better shielding and build quality.

It's surprising how uncommon the PC-FX was, even in Canada. They were all over the early morning ads, for a bit. No real takers. Don't remember a single friend owning one. I do regret not being able to pick one up, at our local small town Radio Shack. By 1991/92, they were available for about $50. Missed the last one they had by about 10 minutes. Real spoiler.. I don't think our Radio Shack had any games stocked.

It was NOT exactly the “european” version of the Pc Engine, since we had it in France, distributed by Sodipeng (Guillemot bros - now Ubi soft). It even had a scart (peritel), and the games had a sloppy photocopy translation of the japanese manual. No idea how much these would cost now though…

@@4879daniel Plenty of them around complete. I'd assume it's more the price. I grabbed my TG16 somewhere around 2017 for $50 USD (everything except box and manuals), now similar sales are ~$350 USD. So bizarre how cov1d screwed up the pricing even on these systems. TG16's were overproduced like crazy, wouldn't sell back in the day, discount units sat on shelves into the early 2000s. My local radio shack had it's units sit in the window so long they were completely sun bleached.

Nothing from Coleco? Colecovision was my fist real console after Pong. We later had the Atari module.

There is a Collecovision in the collection. Unfortunately, that is part of the footage that got left on the cutting room floor to keep the video at an acceptable length.

For a collection this large, I always expect to see a big puddle of capacitor electrolyte underneath each one.

No Atari Jaguar cd?! Also the controller is fine literally everyone who trashes it has never held it longer than 5 minutes. He needs to get a 3do m2 in there but those only pop up on eBay every few years.

Has he got Retroman’s FPGA console?

I don't have any FPGA consoles at present. I would have liked to have bought the Analogue Mega-SG and Super-NT but I found out about them too late. I do have an Analogue Duo on pre-order though.
