Fun fact. Alundra on the PS is the spiritual successor to Landstalker so if you like either your likely to enjoy the other!

This update is such a win. Crusader of Centy is one of my biggest wants for the Sega Genesis NSO Expansion Pack, Landstalker is one of my all-time favorite Genesis/Mega Drive games of all time, and Ghouls 'n Ghosts and Revenge of Shinobi are fantastic games as well.

ghouls n ghost is my favorite Genesis game

Revenge of Shinobi is a childhood classic for me. I played it on the Six Pak cart which also had Streets of Rage, Sonic, Columns, Super Hang On and Golden Axe. Wish we can buy these and all Nintendo classics separately outside of the online subscription service tho.

The Genesis Collection on Switch can be purchased (physical or download) and it has every game you had listed except Super Hang On. The Genesis Collection does have around 50 games (many of them are games available on Switch Online). But for $20-$30 you can own many classic Genesis games

@@justkeating8399 super hang on was actually a purchasable standalone on ps3 along with a few others like revenge of shinobi back in the day so they must of had licensing issues if its not on that. ik Sonic 3 is also not on that collection. Imo the previous collection was better. I also ment the Nintendo games too. it would be nice to actually own em instead of them being stuck in a subscription service.

@@IndieGameFan316 I wasn’t aware of Super Hang On being available as DLC on the PS3. I totally agree with everything you said about there being better versions of Genesis Collection and the desire to actually purchase these games rather than rent them via the subscription in perpetuity. There are some of them you can purchase but not as many as I’d like.

It’s always amazing to see how much The Legend of Zelda series inspires and continues to inspire gameplay and design.

Every single one of these is a banger. Great update this month.

As someone who was around in 1989, Ghouls N Ghosts and Revenge Of Shinobi blew so many people’s minds that year. They helped to establish the Genesis as the top competitor to the NES.

51 year old AUSTRALIAN here and old enough to know there is better games on the Mega Drive(Im not a YANK and thank god for that. you people have no souls) and also I dont see games like Dragon Quest on the Mega drive. Nintendo always had the better RPGS and Sega was always playing catch up

Now this is what I like to see! Rare, high quality titles with an officially supported way to play them! Crusader of Centy is a game I heard of in passing, but seeing it in action it seems like it could have given A Link to the Past some serious competition back in its day.

Oh my Landstalker that takes me back. Maybe someday we could see Alundra available somewhere on a modern console.

The Revenge of Shinobi. One of my favorite all-time classics from the Genesis. Played this in my childhood as part of the SEGA 6-Pak compilation game.

After beating Sonic Origins' Story Mode, I'm in the mood for more cool Genesis games. So this looks interesting to me.

Crusader is one I’m especially proud to see here because of how rare it is.

I remember seeing a TAS of Crusader of Centy and I thought the game looked pretty good, nice to see it coming to the Switch's online service. Maybe in the next SNES update we could get some of the rarer SNES games like Lufia 2 or Terranigma so more people can experience those fantastic games (or maybe just Terranigma so the US can experience it legally for the first time ever.)

PSA not to sleep on Crusader of Centy. It's a pretty rare and expensive game in the US that is 100% worth checking out. It's basically Sega's slightly-more-anime take on The Legend of Zelda and, if you're a fan of that series and miss 2D Zeldas is a great substitute. I played it back in May to review it on my channel/as a game to hold me over till TOTK dropped and really, really enjoyed it

I JUST saw Crusader of Centy in a recommendations video like yesterday, what a coincidence!!! I may just give that one a shot. There's still a ton of Genesis hidden gems that need to be unearthed here soon, so hopefully we'll see some more

Also, Landstalker, Ghouls and Ghosts, and Revenge of Shinobi are amazing picks. Another stellar month for the Genesis. Fingers crossed that Streets Of Rage 1 gets added later down the road.

There aren't many Genesis games that aren't on NSO because Nintendo releases a the good ones. All I can think of is Shining in the Darkness, Phantasy Star 2&3 and Ranger X. Maybe start bringing in Sega CD games!

​@@michaelp4122The Sega CD library is atrocious. I used to own one. I hear people try to counter argue me all the time. But..."Final Fight" and "Mortal Kombat" were better on CD. Marginally better, and we have perfect arcade ports now. There is only two SEGA CD games I can think of that should be released. Both Ecco the Dolphine games. That's it. The ones for the Sega CD are easier, with extra levels, and superior music. But "Terminator CD"...that game is so mediocre. Play "Ultracore" available on Switch if you want too see what a good Terminator CD game should have been.

I've never even considered Saturn games on the Switch before. Being able to play games such as Dragon Force, Shining Force III, Shining the Holy Ark, Guardian Heroes, or even Panzer Dragoon Saga (if that's even possible) on the Switch would be absolutely amazing. Heck, if they need a way to get their hands on the code for Panzer Dragoon Saga, I'd even send them my copy of the game if it'd help make it a reality.

I never thought Crusader of Centy would come, but it's finally here. The Revenge of Shinobi is also a great pick since it's a Yuzo Koshiro composed game. Ghouls N Ghost is such a tough one since I haven't finished playing that one on the Sega Genesis Mini, but I can finish it on NSO. Landstalker seems almost forgotten, but I should check that out.

If i went back in time and told my 90s self that I'd be playing on nintendo in order to play my favorite sega games, i would have laughed in my 2023 selfs face... the console wars were real, and this update is giving us some serious spoils of war!!

Great games this update, Crusader of Centy alone is an incredible game to add. Not everyone has the Genesis Mini 2 and this is a great way for Switch owners to play this.

I hope they add Road Rash one day

The Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo just had so many incredible titles on them, games that still hold up and are incredibly fun to play 30 years later!

Even if it's the same 2009 revision introduced on the Wii Virtual Console which recolors Metamorpher's first form (this is because the license Sega had to feature him as Spider-Man expired), alters Joe Musashi's face to make him look less like Sonny Chiba as depicted in Kage No Gundan, and transforms Monster G into an anthropomorphic skeleton with visible internal organs.

These games were all on my wishlist! Now all that’s left is Rocket Knight Adventures, Decap Attack, Shadowrun, and the Vectorman games!

That's the version I had as a kid, and it was surprising even then to see other characters from Spiderman, Batman, and Godzilla show up. It was like a fan made game. I'm curious to see what the changes are.

I checked the changes. All the characters are actually still there. No changes were made to the Incredible Hulk/Terminator. SpiderMan is still SpiderMan, they just changed his color from red to pink. That's it. Batman has been changed into looking more like a vampire. This change actually makes more sense, since the original "Batman" could fly and turn into a bat. I actually approve of this change. Rambo is still in the game, but they removed his hair, so he is just bald. You wouldn't confuse him for Rambo anymore. A smart change. Godzilla has been changed into a a skeleton version of himself with his guts showing. Honestly a pretty cool change. I don't have any issues with these changes. They made some good decisions.

As for why Metamorpher was Spider-Man in the first versions before Version 1.04, this was because Sega was working with Marvel at the time who wanted to make Spider-Man video games (which in their case included the 1991 arcade brawler and the home game, Spider-Man Versus The Kingpin). Thing was that in version 1.00, Spidey was colored differently to look like an impostor. It wasn't until version 1.01 in which Metamorpher's Spider-Man colors were the real deal, though he was officially acknowledged in Version 1.02. As for the vampire man that Metamorpher transforms into, he is known as Devilman who is a manga character who had an anime film based on the manga. As for the flamethrower soldiers, while they were altered beginning in version 1.01, they are still known in the Japanese manual as Rocky. As for the Hulk/Terminator boss, he had two names. In the Japanese version, he is known as Hercules, which is a likely reference to Hercules in New York which was one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's early films, whereas the English name is Master Attacker.

Crusader of Centy was a major step forward for the online service. Looking for forward to seeing the Final Fight trilogy and Bare Knuckle III for Nintendo Switch Online.

Alex Kidd is a bad game. And oddly enough, you have two ways to play it already: Sega Ages lineup, and a Remastered version. It's such a bad game though.

Wow, and I had just played The Revenge of Shinobi on Sega Genesis Classics. I think regarding the Genesis games that are on Nintendo Switch Online and Sega Genesis Classics, I'm gonna stick with the latter for those games since I want to beat all of the collection's challenges. This means Ghouls' N Ghosts and Crusader of Centy are games I can look forward to playing for my journey through every NSO game.

A lot of people say that the emulation on the Genesis Classics edition is poor because of input lag. Have you playing NSO Genesis games to Sega Classic back-to-back to confirm this?

@@thinkhector No I haven't and I have heard about the input lag in Sega Genesis Classics. Personally, I don't notice input lag that much and even so, I at least have a rewind feature in case I make a mistake with my timing. SGC also has a fast forward feature as well which I know sounds like a pointless extra but I think it will serve well for grinding & load screens in the RPG games.

Was actually surprised Crusader of Centy was not in the initial lineup.

This an AWESOME update! I've always loved The Revenge of Shinobi, and Ghouls n Ghosts is great (especially for the rewind feature) 😅

Ghouls n Ghosts is WAY easier to handle with rewinding and save states.

I think Nornan Caruso (Gaming Historian) talked about Crusader of Centy in one of his Gaming Historian episodes on Legend of Zelda Sega clone games. Revenge of Shinobi is also on the Sega Genesis Mini console. Overall, not bad what's on the Sega Genesis NSO app.

Ooh a couple old action RPGs I never played. Definitely look into those.

Landstalker! Great to see that on Switch but would love it even more to see a sequel

It may be unfortunate that I have never heard of or played Landstalker and Crusader of Centy, but I do happen to be familiar with Shinobi and Ghouls 'n' Ghosts.

I can appreciate this but I'd STILL prefer having Mario Party 3 on NSO at some point And if they'd not make Harvest Moon 64 a Japanese exclusive that would be great

Those games need the remaster treatment like how Super Mario Sunshine and Metroid Prime got. Modernized controls, HD resolution and quality of life improvements are a must

those games are far too large for the NSO. Better off giving them ports or remasters anyways.

Did you not see the remake announcement? Even if Nintendo would, I doubt square would want to put a game for free on an online service when they can sell it for $60. Especially since the remake isn’t even out yet.
