Doom Troopers was a Mutant Chronicles card game and that Sega game was the embarrassingly awful video game adaptation. It is absolutely horrid and ugly. But not as bad as the movie!!!

Light Crusader must be mine. Holy shit those animations are gorgeous for a Genny game. Great work as always MJR and Immortal One.

The big fly in that game is the difficulty. There is no punishment for dying. You can lose your life infinitely without consequence, and you always stay where you are. I guess it's more of a puzzle game, but why even have HP and healing items and spells if there is no downside to being killed?

Dammit, John Hancock! Just when I thought I've played every Genesis game you bust out a few games I've never heard of. Gotta find Light Crusader.

It's a game from Treasure, and If you know your sega genesis you gotta love that Gunstar Heroes and of course the best looking/hardware-intensive game on the system: Alien Soldier. They rock!

Battletech! One of my all time favorites, and actually the first game I got for the genesis back in the day. So cool to see this on the list

I want to thank both Metal Jesus and The Immortal John Hancock for getting me back into retro gaming and collecting. You guys along with Reggie, Kinsey, and the rest of the bunch really brought back that amazing feeling of nostalgia for me. You all are awesome and I really appreciate your content even though my wallet might disagree!

I first played Light Crusader when I had SEGA channel for my Genesis. It was a lot of fun. Another great game by Treasure.

I just discovered Light Crusader myself independently of this video. Well made, fun, rewards diligent exploring, challenging but not broken puzzles (well except one), and you can beat it over a weekend. Had no idea it existed. A true hidden gem!

- Sub-Terrania was actually covered in part 1 and looks really good. - Bonanza Bros is an phenomenal game: awesome fun for 2-players, easy to play through in an hour and just hilarious. Pretty sure it was well known at the time though. - General Chaos is covered in part 3: A game I wanted to love as the idea and style is excellent; shame I always found after about 30 minutes it became pretty tedious and lost its novelty. - Mutant League Football is a good laugh where you often just try to kill enough players on the other team that they have to forfeit the match! I would recommend Mutant League Hockey for those who want faster action or don't know/care how American Football works.

The Genesis was my console of choice growing up so I knew about a lot of these (General Chaos, Mutant League Football, Haunting, etc) but there's a few that people list next to those classics that I haven't tried. Respecting "old timers", I'll play them all!

Thank you so much for covering Skeleton Krew! I've been been trying to remember what this game was called for so long now, and I couldn't find mention of it anywhere. I used to play it as a kid on Sega Channel. Even back then I had never heard of the game before, so I thought it was gonna be bad (a lot of the games on Sega Channel were not so good). But it was great! I loved that game. One of my favorite games on the Genesis at the time. But then my Sega Channel subscription ended, and I never saw the game again until now, 25 years later. Thank you so much for taking me back! The nostalgia is very real.

I had no Idea Al from "Home Improvement" was such a fan of Sega

One of my all time favourite systems. The Mega Drive was the system that got me into gaming.

One of my favorite hidden gems on the Genesis is Gain Ground. You always fight up and pick ip diferent heroes that can sttacl in different directions. some have guns, bows, Spears, rocket launchers, its so much fun!

This is what i grew up on and gunstar heroes is one of my favorite games of all time!

I remember seeing "Toki: Going Ape Spit" and "Steel Empire" being featured as playable games in episodes of the Nickelodeon game show "Nick Arcade". :D

I had Red Zone. It was one of those games that was far too difficult for a 5-7 year old so I didnt get very far. It was also quite a creepy game and even now gives me the chills seeing it. Im not sure why, maybe because it was quite realistic and when your characters died they were dead forever, no funeral, no mention just you didnt get to play them anymore. The mission goes on in its dark somber way.

The soundtrack when you're in the buildings is a true masterpiece suspense builder

This is great! The Immortal was one of the first games I picked up when I got my Genesis. So good. Sadly, the battery is dead, and it won't boot anymore, but I remember being blown away by this one so many years ago. Seeing the screen shots, it really holds up to this day. I miss the old EA... Funny - I was just today looking for footage of obscure Sega Genesis games, and found the old video - And lo and behold, you posted a follow-up TODAY! Never watched your channel before, but adding it to my subs. Good stuff!

Ernest Evans, Moonwalker, El Viento, Valis, Contra Hard Corps, Altered Beast, Atomic Runner, 2020 Super Baseball, RBI 2 and 3, Gunstar Heroes, Thunder Force 3, Altered Beast, Golden Axe 1 and 2, Kabuli Mistycal Fighter, Quakshot, Street of Rage 1 and 2, Shinobi 3 (one of the favorite game of all mi life, awesome music), Revenge of Shinobi, Eswat, Last Battle, Buster Douglas Boxing, Pat Riley Basketball, NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat 1 and 2, Sonic 1, 2 and Sonic and Knucles, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Growl, Fighting Master, Fatal Fury 1 and 2, Street Fighter 2 Special Champion Edition, Toki, Earthworm Jim, Dinamite Duke and many, many games. One day, she come back to me. Sniff.

Yeah Light Crusader! One of the best megadrive/genesis games for me. Has also a real cool intro and well made music.

I haven't played a Sega Genesis for over 20yrs. Since I was a small child baby. Thank you my friend for letting me realize how great, awesome and unique that console truly is. Next day I'm off I'm going to get me that there console and hopefully will be able to find some sweet games.

Mr.Dododi The MegaDrive version of Robocop vs Terminator is 100000000 better then it’s SNES counterpart with it’s awesome 16bit gore.

If you want to get any far in battletech, play it two in player mode. First player controls top of the robot and weaponry, while second player does the walking. Benefits are that in two player mode, you do not have to walk in direction you shoot, so you can run away while shooting at danger.

Great vid. You had several of my recommendations on here as well as some I have never heard of. Immortal and Light Crusader are awesome.

Light Crusader was the game my bros and I played on Sega Channel. Took turns passing the controller, figuring out the puzzles with those wonky controls. Eventually found a used copy at a video rental store. Good time... Skeleton Krew was another one we played a lot on Sega Channel

I sold my SEGA collection back in the day for a PS2 and two games, Vertical Fighter 4, and Tecken 4. I have been trying to rebuy my collection back from my childhood.almost complete again. But I also aqiyered some new games in the process. I am a SEGA kid and always will be.

Some favs were: ninja turtles, xmen, sonic, street fighter. All great cooperative games on this console

Usually these "Hidden Gems" videos are literally the same games EVERYONE posts as hiddgen gems.But he really found a bunch of games that look AMAZING to me for the Genesis. Most of them are also ones I've never heard of as well.

The Immortal. That's a legit hidden gem. Hard as she-ite. I remember renting it from Hastings and late fees and re-renting and only one copy so hard to get. Loved the bloody melting deaths.

John Hancock may be the only person I've ever seen to surpass my love for SEGA. I'm getting back into the swing of collecting again, and these videos are helping me to remember some of my old favorites. Love the videos, my first time seeing Metal Jesus was the "Working at Sierra" video. I gotta drop a sub.

Awe man! I used to have Light Crusader when I was a kid, but I never beat it because I was too dumb to play RPGs when I was little.

Here in Argentina we have copies of some of these games in cartridges...i think from China or Russia, i don't know....but originals are really too difficult to find them. So, i'll be fine if i find The Immortal on a chinese copy at least. Greetings!

When I was a teenager, I had the TOKI catridge for Mega Drive. I LOVED IT!!!!!! It's really one of the best games from the complete list. I still remember it as one of my good memories from videogames I played as a boy. I have it now, but on the Sega Génesis emulator.

I love these videos as a reference point when I play my retro pi. I have a running list of games to play thanks to these awesome videos!!

Still have my Genesis and it still works many childhood memories

Buck Rogers was one of my favorite games as a kid. It was the science fiction version of Pool of Radiance, another of my favorites. When I think of Genesis, the first games that come to mind are: Shining Force, Warsong, General Chaos, Herzog Zwei, Buck Rogers, and King's Bounty.

It was great to see you guys meet up and discuss some titles I was not aware of. would love to have a beer with you guys I could listen all night!

you seriously can't imagine the chills i got when John mentioned the fucking Bog Bean. I moved away from Redding when i was just a kid but that place holds a vague yet special place in my heart. I remember first looking at a vinyl record there and my parents buying me Mario Paint.

Battle Tech, Desert Strike, and True Lies. Trifecta of top down Genesis games. These are the 3 games that made my case for owning a Genesis over SNES when I was a kid. Ah, the memories.

I just mentioned Light Crusader the other day in the comments of a similar video. Man, that game is truly a hidden gem! One of my favorites on the console.

I have Light Crusader too and I love it sometimes the puzzles can drive a person nuts buts it´s very good.

Good stuff, my collection so far has mainly been limited to handheld consoles and I was surprised to find out how cheap Mega Drive/Genesis systems are. Got the Mega Drive 1 from eBay for around 20 bucks although I had to look for the cables and controllers separately which cost me about the same amount as the console, but it seemed like the better option as I really wanted the original model as it has a much nicer retro look to it I am planning on getting a multicart to start out with though, I really don't feel like throwing a lot of money on cartridges right now and rather look for them over time and it's a good way to start

I owned Both Red Zone & The Immortal in both PAL for my Mega Drive, Amazing games, I loved them - so much memories. - I was 9 at the time though, and I could never get past the Spider/Gem Puzzle on level 2, in the Immortal. - I used to look through game magazines for Level Codes, and the Puzzles were just as tough.

I wanted to be good at the immortal, but I couldn't ever play that damn game.

Oh man, Battletech! When I saw that I instantly was 10 again! I remember playing that game with my Dad; we were both big Battletech fans, and even did the battle pods when they were in Chicago! The mech they feature in the game on the Genesis...the Mad Cat! Best...mech...EVER!!

I haven't gotten around to watching all the genesis hidden gem videos yet, but "BOB" and "the beached surfer dude!" deserve hidden gem status if they haven't already been mentioned

I've completely forgotten about Battletech. I use to rent that game a lot, because some of the mech designs reminded me a little about Robotech

John's channel is dope! Lots of useful info on so much that he owns. He gives advice, info and his opinion as well as facts on everything. Great job and awesome job to MJR for his excellent channel and bringing awesome guests all the time. Thank you so much MJR and everyone that helps make the hidden gems, buying guide, etc videos.

Thank you for making this video about Genesis games and not custom Japanese import games. It's important to see what the US Genesis specifically offered back in the day.

Oh man Buck Rogers was so good. Better than the IBM version IMO. Love the SSI manuals too they had so much info in there. The golden days.

Oh man, Battletech was my favorite game on Genesis!

Light Crusader was my first RPG or my introduction to the genre though it was more of a dungeon crawler like Diablo. I have fond memories of playing this game with my cousin and borrowing it from him too as we both had Segas and traded games all the time. As for my favorite Genesis games in no particular order (ok maybe the first one lol) Toejam and Earl, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Aladdin, Virtual Pinball, TMNT, Streets Of Rage 2, and Lightening Force.

I really enjoy your content and have been hooked on Retro gaming. I initially when I was a lot younger played on the Atari. I totally missed out on Sega Genesis and when I got the Sega Genesis Mini I was for the most part impressed and enjoyed a few of the games. Good video; Toki and Steel Empire (aka. Empire of Steel) are 2 incredible games I used to play a lot and highly recommend. Compelling gameplay and excellent soundtracks. Like the look of Light Crusader, Battletech and Doom Troopers, so I may have to check them out.

The Immortal!!!! I had that on the NES and nobody knew about it! I didn’t know it was a genesis title too.

Doom Troopers also has one of the best game soundtracks, I remember you could listen to the tracks in the options, and I used to just put that on and play with legos : D

I hade no idea that The Immortal came out for the Genesis, I have that for the NES with a different cover, hard as hell!

Battletech actually sold very many copies, and was ported to the SNES as MechWarrior 3050 which was a very popular release. Also, Light Crusader was popular enough that they released it again on the Wii Virtual Console.

If you don't want to get into the Sega Genesis hardware and carts, Light Crusader is available on the Wii virtual console for $5. It's an outstanding game, particularly the magic combos and clever dungeon puzzles.

The Magic Candle! I had that on the Commodore 64. The instruction book was as fun to read as the game was to play.

Never got the chance to play much on a Sega consoles but these titles really caught my interest. I'm looking to collect/explore for consoles I never got a chance to play and these games are titles that I'm looking for. On a side note, I think it would be a great addition to talk about what other ports there are, aside from the aforementioned console. I'm assuming since these are genesis hidden gems that they might be exclusive but it sounded like several might have been on SNES too. That info would give more people a chance to play these if the don't have the right gear. just a suggestion. thanks, looking forward to part two.
