Sega Dreamcast Deep Clean - I Found Dead Bugs!

Ғылым және технология

Steve at Tronicsfix gave me this Sega Dreamcast for a deep clean restoration. Once I got inside I found that this system used to be the home of a number of creepy crawly little friends. I do my best to make it look good again!

Hey friends, I just wanted to leave a note about the metal sandpaper scrubbing starting at 8:58. I have received some good feedback about less abrasive methods for dealing with rust, and want to try experimenting with those. Due to scheduling this project with Tronicsfix, I actually filmed this video a while ago. Just wanted to say something cause I feel bad for replying “oh yeah good idea” to those comments, then moving forward as if I’m not really listening. 😊

This has become my favorite restoration channel. You strike a good balance with everything; the music, narration and editing all feel like just the right amount of each. Just a really pleasant experience

The most underrated console of all time. I had one, and Shenmue was the game to go to. It was so advanced for its time and i absolutely regret selling mine. Great clean up :).

As the drive isn't working, you could replace it with a SD card reader solution. At least then you don't have to mess with discs.

Hey, I have a question about that, I was wondering about the SD card variant that you insert in the serial port at the underside of the GC does that thing require a disc to work? Sorry if this is a newbie question but I truly am a newbie to the whole modding scene :)

I wouldn't bother messing around with a new laser (if you can even find good one's anymore). Stick a GDEMU in there and job's done.

About a week ago, i bought one off eBay and as soon I received it I decided to open it up and do so clean up just to find lots of corrosion and water damage lucky a was able to get my money back I had to reach out to the seller and let him know (I had to send him pictures) funny part he has listed the same Item on Ebay Again

I'm no expert, but I do know that the PS1 and the Dreamcast used the same era of disc drives. They may not be 1 to 1 so a swap may not be possible, but you might be able to deconstruct a working disc drive from a non working PS1 and replace the part that is bad. That is something to try.

I had a Dreamcast in college. Spent literal weeks downloading games on dialup because there was no way to get games within a few hundred miles of where I was at school at the time.

And eBay back then was money order only so soonest you could get a used game was like five weeks, and there was always a 33/33/33 chance you would get nothing/get broken disc (or a burned CD)/get the right item.

The Dreamcast was really a good repairable and from the beginning cost optimized design. A shame Sega ended building devices.

He stated in a previous video on why he doesn't do that on the channel. He simply decided that he wanted to keep the cleaning down to things anyone can do with inexpensive items. That's the gist of it I think.
