Episode Notes:
1. Some of the footage you see here is from the emulator Redream. It ran most of these games quite well.
2. This episode originally was conceptualized for 10 games. Sturmwind was part of this episodes outline, but as you may know, Sturmwind EX was released for the PC, Switch, Xbox One X, and PS4 in Novemnber of 2019.
3. Toy Racer is mostly a multiplayer game with very little single player content.
4. Max Steel was only released in North America.
5. Sega Rally 2 is one of the most divisive games on the DC. Some love it, some hate it, and few are in between.
6. The opening barrage of games were considered for this episode. Maybe I'll add them in the sequel.
7. Capturing DC games has gotten a lot easier with with my SCART 480p cable. I still have problems with contrast and brightness, but the at least there is little lag.
8. I hadn't played Sword of the Berserk in 20 years. I had completely forgotten how to play it.

Totally agree and to be fair I think the Saturn, PS1, N64 and Dreamcast all had very distinctive looks from one another and all for different reasons, something which has sadly been lost in the many years since as games and consoles largely morph into one another, although Nintendo's own titles still have a distinctive look

That's what Sega was aiming for with the Dreamcast, to branch out beyond the hardcore and reach the casual crowd. It ended up being better for the hardcore however as it has some of the best arcade fighters ever made as well as a variety of the weirdest games ever made. Crazy Taxi is one that falls into both categories. The casuals like it because it has a pick up and play mindset, but to fully master it and beat all it's modes and time attacks offers challenge for the hardcore. This to me was Sega at their best. It proves that they can make it work with enough fresh ideas.

To the best of my understanding, both of these started in the arcade and found their way to the Dreamcast via the Naomi board, and neither game has ever been ported to any other home system. I would also say: -Record of Lodoss War: Advent of Cardice, a fun little diablo clone and worthy anime title. -Tech Romancer! An amazing fighter with giant robots with a massive single player mode. Every character has a branching path story mode to play through, and they are parodies of all the classic mecha shows of the 90s, like Evangelion, Gundam and Macross, among many others.

Agree with Record of Lodoss War, but it's no mere "Diablo Clone" I think the weapon leveling (and transfer) system makes it a much better game than Diablo. Some of the optional areas and fights are super tough without being controller throw frustrating, but the rewards are also substantial for most of them.

D2 is actually really great. I would say that one of it's strengths is the mixing of different types of games. Just being another RE clone would have boring and dull no matter how well it was made. The RPG elements kept me interested and I played it twice on the DC. The control is no worse than any other Tank style control, they are all bad frankly. The soundtrack,by Kenji Eno was good enough that I bought the CD of it,and once you get past the slow beginning it really gets fun. The sense of mystery is good and it's amazing this game came out at all. Eno was an interesting game maker and it's a pity he's not around to continue to refine his style.

@@carllavery4442 Enemy Zero was very interesting as well. Only the limited save system holds it back a bit. I like it better than Alien Isolation. Boy that Kenji Eno. Back in 97' or so he was at a Sony Conference to announce a game for them. He got up on stage and said right in front of everyone that his new game would be for the Saturn instead and it was Enemy Zero. Sony was pissed. The balls on that guy were beyond belief. He had tons of friends high up though that kept Sony executives from coming down on him. I read that he did it to them because they screwed him over when he ported D to the PS1. He he was just getting back into game making before he passed away. Too bad. At least he had a son.

Scavenge for valuables, flee from the weird monsters by slaloming through the submerged skyscrapers and upgrade your submarine with the gear you found! Bomber Hehhe! - Place explosives and time them correctly to blow up the designated building without causing damage to the adjacent houses. Cosmic Smash - A very stylish squash game with multiple paths. deSpiria - A weird JRPG by the creators of Hellnight on the PS1. Mix myst-like exploration with classic JRPG battles. It’s nice to see Sega Rally 2 getting some love. While I can be sensitive to frame rate, it’s never really bothered me in this game. It’s a real shame Sega insisted on using SR2 to demonstrate Windows CE as I’m sure a fully faithful conversion would have been possible without Windows CE dragging performance down. Rippin’ Riders looks good, I’ll have to give it a try. It’s always annoyed me we never got home conversions of Namco’s skiing and snowboarding arcade games.

Nice episode. I had several of the games in this one, Toy Commander was one of my favorites. The DC also had a bunch of arena type shooters, some that to my knowledge, didn't make appearances elsewhere: -Spawn: Into the Demon's Hand -Outtrigger -Heavy Metal: Geo Matrix Looking forward to the next part.

Holy shit! I got a Dreamcast the day it launched. I bought and have so many DC titles that I thought I had all the great jems...I was wrong. For example, I never cared for D. This is why I stayed away from the sequel but after seeing the crazy RPG elements, FPS sequences, and open endedness makes me want it bad. We the fans need more! Give us that sweet, sweet Dreamcast the sequel video! What a bitter sweet time to be a gamer. We got to see Sega burn so bright with the Dreamcast and flare out far too quickly. When the Dreamcast launched and with so many showstoppers at launch...I thought we might have another Genesis on our hands. Had Sega just been in competition with Nintendo it might have gone down like that. Unfortunately, Sony was a huge unstoppable juggernaut that killed the dream. Now, this does not mean I didn't love the PS2...I got one the first week the console shipped. I just can't believe something as good as the Dreamcast ended like it did.

I haven't seen any comments refer to this game so I'll be the one to say it. Sega Marine Fishing is a great game on Dreamcast and is also exclusive to the platform other than being on Windows way back in the day. The Dreamcast fishing controller single handedly made this game feel almost identical to the arcade version and is a must own if you like Sega's fishing arcade games.

Fantastic video, you covered the one game I was hoping you would, RED DOG. Loved that game when it was new. It was almost a prototype for the Warthog controls for Halo. I'll have to agree to disagree about BESERK's story. The cutscenes are what made it so compelling to me as a teen, mostly due to Michael Bell(Raziel, various Smurfs) voicing Gatsu. It was unlike anything else in the hack and slash/brawler genre I had played up to that point, and I loved it's world building.

Please do more exclusive videos!!!!!!! It is wonderful to try and search for these games. I missed sooo much of the Dreamcast, in it's heyday. My cousin had one, I had three Playstations lmao, that is what I mean... I was SONY HOOKED! haha I went and played hers often, but she had such a limited supply of games. She struggled finding ones, or even affording them at one point. So she gave up lol Please make more so I can explore these obscure finds! These were people's lives and their art, they deserve other people celebrating their flaws AND perfections! :)

I'd be more than eager to see more entries to this "exclusives" line of videos. Mainly because I would like to hear your opinion on games like Time Stalkers (it didn't get the popularity I believe it deserved, it's such a fun game, despite its issues), Blue Stinger, Segagaga (which is such a neat piece), or Carrier.
