Today's Matinee Show brings you the BARGAD interview - our long-form cinema interview segment. This immensely positive and inspiring BARGAD interview is with Seema Pahwa who has an iconic acting career of more than 51 years. She came into prominence with Doordarshan soap opera Hum Log (1984-1985) where she played the role of Badki. Then Seema Pahwa was seen in Hindi / Bollywood films like Hari Bhari, Sardari Begum, Zubeidaa, Godmother, Tere Bin Laden but she most popularly is known for her roles in Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Ankhon Dekhi, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Seema Pahwa has directed her first film as well which is titled Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi which might release on OTT.
In this BARGAD interview with The Lallantop Editor Saurabh Dwivedi, Seema Pahwa talks about her childhood, acting at the age of 6 and mother Saroj Bhargava being the inspiration behind it who did her screen debut at the age of 75 in 2002 movie Ek Chhotisi Love Story. Seema Pahwa also talks about her crazy funny love story and marriage with Manoj Pahwa who she worked with in theatre and Hum log. Her experience of working with theatre directors like Rajender Nath, Bhanu Bharti, Ram Gopal Bajaj (Bajju Bhai), B. V. Karanth, Prasanna, writer Manohar Shyam Joshi. Her first meeting with Naseeruddin Shah, then later acting with him in Motley plays and how she learnt so much from him. Talks about her cooking real food on stage in her play Saag Meat and funny cooking stories from films sets as well.
Seema Pahwa criticizes the Indian film industry for stereotyping fat actors and always giving them comic characters to play. Like she says that excluding Anubhav Sinha no director has given a serious role to actor Manoj Pahwa who was always made to do comedy. But he later proved his mettle in Mulk and Article 15 in serious roles. The same has been with Seema who makes people cry in her theatre plays but never given such serious deep roles in films. She also calls out the stereotyping of rich people in Bollywood movies who are always shown as fair which is not the truth in real life because India's richest man Mukesh Ambani is not fair. Seema Pahwa talks about the interesting anecdotes of her casting in Rajat Kapoor's Ankhon Dekhi, Sharat Katariya's Dum Laga Ke Haisha and director R. S. Prasanna's Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.

The most heartening moment for me was when Ms. Seema Bhargava Pahwa said that one should first know oneself and if one knows oneself, nothing in life can upset one's core balance. Actually, this has often been said by Jiddu Krishnamurti, a very great if not the greatest human being from our recent past. No wonder she has put on weight because she can never get stressed ✌️

Everything was good until you wrote that last line. Her “putting on weight” is your explanation. To herself, she’s normal
One of the best interviews I have seen in a long time. This level of maturity shows the "EDUCATION" everyone should get from life. Mam.. you are the best person, and you have not just played the best roles on screen, but in real life.

सन 1981 मे delhi doordarshan के लिये short फ़िल्म 'उस्का निर्णय' बनाई थी उसमे सरोज जी ने माँ का रोल किया था. इस interview को देख कर पुरानी यादें ताज़ा हो गई. उसी आंगन में कुर्सी पे बैठा इस interviewको देख रहा हूँ ,अच्छा लग रहा है । सीमा जी शुभकामनायेँ।

Saurabh ji aapne jitnebhi interviews liye hai, questions bojhil Nahi lagte hai, I mean your questonare and way of asking is having normal flow with consistency. Excellent. Seemaji I must thank that you don't have complaints towards the life. Now onwards I learnt the positivity of my life. Age doesn't matter, I am fully charged.

This was so refreshing and honest.... Kehte kehte apne subtle andaz mein society, body shaming, feminism, work etc... Par itna kuch keh gayien. I am from that generation that saw Badki and Hum Log.

सबसे ज़्यादा मार्मिक वो हिस्सा लगा जब सीमा जी 'हम लोग' के बारे में बता रहीं थी कि कैसे लोग उन्हें असल जिंदगी में बड़की की तरह ही लेने लगे.. कैसे वो 'जबरन' समाज सेवा से जुड़ गयी... और overall, सीमा जी का सहज रूप और ज़िन्दगी का अंदाज़ बेहद दिल को छू गया। सौरभ जी का धन्यवाद इस अनुभव के लिए🙏🙏

It was a wonderful interview. So simple down to earth human being. Enjoyed listening how much she enjoyed each real roles in her real life ( lesson she gave to today's women) and those experiences and joy she poured out in each assigned character on stage n Movies. She is one of the great artists.

The one thing that I loved about this discussion is that she spoke against the bias on physical appearance of people and conveying that the films of rich people are unrelatable to common man. This shows that she knows how a common man thinks.
