It's a 50/50 mix the 60/40 ratio on the bag is weight related as the bent seed smaller you need less of it as there is more seed per gram

I though it was about 70% bent seeds for that ratio. Im mixing in 10% bent / 90/ fescue weight which should be 30% bent seeds. The sowing rate of bent is around 4x that of rye fescue so I multiple the weight by 4 and then divide that number by the total seed count to get the percentage. I think that's correct logically. I could be wrong though.

Fair play to you for going with so much bent grass. I have watched the Lawn association clips and they are brilliant. He does come in for some abuse. I do think most KZread channels are by businesses that are depending on renovating and upkeep, so that suits fescue and rye grass. But I hear bent does take a long while to establish and maintain. So, really excited to see how you get on.

Nice job. Been following along. I'm doing the same and going for a mix of common bents with creeping fescue for the same reasons. From your levelling video, I'm using the same 70/30 mix but also adding in some jacks magic so I don't need to worry about pre-ferts to max out gemination rates, jacks has enough for that. One thing with Bents as, I'm sure you'll know, is you'll need to verti-cut as well as mow to keep it lush and eek out the thatch more often. Top job. Great approach to dealing with the bogging issue you had, a common UK new build issue with clay bases.

@@NoviceGardener I tried covering it with field no.4. That was a mistake. either add the compost first and rake in then seed or only used compost when overseeding as it will stick to your feet and lift the seeds up. I only ended up using 2 bags as a result. It depends on the soil below. Mine is very sandy which looking at the video is very similar to the texture that you have on the surface. sandy soil then compost create a layer change that is similar to blotting flour with a damp sponge. Usually I just do what you have done and get full coverage without doing anything special but wanted to try compost and a fleece as a comparison. The fleece is sticking to the seeds when watered lol. I'll have to see how it goes. If left uncovered the animals such as cats, squirrels, foxes , birds, dogs etc all dig at it. I guess some will germinate and the bits sticking may fall down and germinate once the fleece is removed.

Also a fan of the lawn association, all makes perfect sense what they preach. Only issue i see though is bent gets ruined more easily by the worm cast and poor drainage from my experience (and I've tested rye, fescue and bents all side by side for the last 2 years). So novice's new drainage is going to get put to the test straight away! I predict he's going to end up with a mainly fescue lawn by the end of this. Not that it would be a particular issue, as fescue gives a great lawn and hides the poa better than rye. 👍

Good luck! What fescue cultivars are included in the mix? I just did mine yesterday. The wind blew some seeds off lol. Its on a slope which doesn't help. I went with a 20% bent 80% fescue mixed with 100% fescue to get 10% bent. Its a shaded area on 60+% sand soil on a slope with lots of banking due to manhole covers heights, feces, paths etc. I'll cut it pretty long at about 30mm so having mostly fescue seems like the best option. I may have used too much seed as i put down around 2kg for 40m2 (50g / m2). I do everything right then use too much seed. I cant help it lol.
