Seed Talk #95 - Flower Conditioning Products & Process

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Wondering how to maximize the vase life of your flowers? Unsure which flower conditioning products you should use and when? Today, Lisa and Layne discuss the ins and outs of flower conditioning. They cover the importance of conditioning flowers and the process, from harvesting out in the field or garden to the vase, using four key products (pre-treatment, hydrating treatment, holding solution, and flower food). After walking through each of the products individually, they give overviews of the entire process for both home gardeners and flower farmers. Listen to the podcast and learn how to properly condition your flowers for beautiful, long-lasting bouquets!

    That is great information as always! I have entered flowers in the county fair, and being able to keep them clean and fresh looking before they were judged and after was so important. I will keep this in mind next time I enter a flower in the fair! Will also be important to know the time of day when to cut the flowers to prevent wilt, that information would also help a lot.

    How exciting that you exhibit your beautiful flowers at the county fair! 🥰 I am sure they need to look pristine for the judges, as well as all the onlookers that view them throughout the day 🧐👩‍⚖🌻 Thanks so much for sharing, and have a fantastic weekend! 💚🤗💚

    Question...I was told that you shouldn't use the whole packet of flower food for a vase, that there is enough for at least 3 changes of water. Is this true? I think she said 1/8th to 1/4 teaspoon. Thank you so much. Your show is great.

    Hello! I would try checking the back of your flower food packet. Usually, the recommended volume of water for the entire packet is specified there. If you are using less water than that (or if you just want to experiment with using a lower concentration of flower food), you can certainly stretch the use of that packet out. Hope that helps, and have a fantastic day! 💚🤗💚

    Dave also said the snapdragon buds that open on a vase without flower food will be all white! I paid attention and tested two vases of snaps with and without flower food and the bud color was all white without. Why didn’t I notice this before?!

  • @LayneAngelo

    That is so true! The immature buds will often not fully develop, color up, or open without flower food ☹ So happy to hear you conducted an experiment to confirm this! 👩‍🔬 Thanks so much for sharing this great information, and have a fabulous weekend! 💚🤗💚

    Could you list the flowers in Lisa’s favorite bouquet (pink yellow, white bouquet? More specifically - what are the lacy white flowers?

  • @LayneAngelo

    @LayneAngelo

    Hello! The bouquet contained strawflowers, statice, bupleurum, craspedia, scabiosa, snapdragons, feverfew, carnations, and 'ProCut Gold Lite' sunflowers, as well as the white flowers you referenced. The look of the white flowers could be achieved using 'Covent Garden' baby's breath or 'White Beauty' soapwort 😊 Hope that helps, and have a great day! 💚🤗💚

    Thank you so much for that informative video. I’ve been waiting for that one lol. Just wondering if you can comment on dahlias. Would you harvest them with just the tablet or hydrating solution. Thanks.

  • @LayneAngelo

    @LayneAngelo

    Ай бұрын

    You are so welcome! ☺️ Glad to hear we covered a topic you were looking forward to 🥰 Regarding the dahlias (or any flower, really), I would try harvesting without the hydrating treatment / solution first and only add that to your protocol if you experience issues (after doing everything else properly harvest-wise). No need to waste product and money unnecessarily! 😊. Best of luck with your flowers, and have a lovely day! 💚🤗💚

    Thanks so much for this information. I’ve taken notes, but I do have a question about hydrating Solutions sunflowers. I think I heard Lisa say on a prior seed talk that she does use it also for some sunflowers. Could you elaborate?
