@@CountryLivingExperience I'm in zone 8b in FL along the gulf coast and just moved from zone 9b, so trying to get adjusted. After 2 years, I realize we go from cold to hot almost overnight. So, I bought a greenhouse that opens on both ends and started researching heaters. I bought the Big Buddy heater with fan, but yes, propane is expensive. Then, I discovered these deisel heaters. If I get the 8k it should keep my 10x20x7 greenhouse above 45°F with the coldest temp being 22°F. And if we get a forcast for colder, I reckon I can stick the propane heater out there. Unlike the propane heater, the deisels can run about 13 hrs each night for almost three nights on high on 1 gallon. Our deisel is running $3.69 a gallon right now. Lots cheaper than propane! So I'm not sure if I can get it ordered and installed in time for this winter, but that would definitely save a lot of money.

I want to plant all cabages too early to avoid cabbage flies and other diseases that come when you plant when they say you should. Avoiding diseases is so important. You can do that by planting slightly early and preplanting inside in the nursery and taking them outside when they are 6 weeks old (this will also keep your beds filles constantly and reduce the time a crop occupies the bed and allow for at least 3 harvests a year p bed). There are but a few things you will have a hard time or are not an option for transplanting, like onions, garlic, and all tubers.

Are you in Washington state? Just curious because I think I’m zone 8b in western Washington. I’m trying to figure out what I can plant (I have rocky clay soil) I think I will need raised beds. I think my window for planting is closing with the dates you mentioned. Also I don’t think I need to plant to much as I’m the only one in my house that craves veggies. I am tired of buying veggies from the store just to see them go bad. I am not a big eater and I would say I’m the world’s tallest midget😊

I usually start my cukes in ground on 4/30 and they do well. Much earlier and they stall out or die. Tomatoes I start indoors in early to mid-Feb, and transplant in early May. I wait into May to transplant peppers and eggplants.
