I had a volunteer Cherokee Purple tomato that I let grow. It was in a convenient spot. The tomatoes were some of the largest and tastiest that I grew this year. I've saved the seeds to see if I get the same results.
Gardening greetings from South Africa 💚
Love that last topiary shot!!
Always a pleasure. Thanks for the great tips!
Thank you so much. I've learned something new. I'm grateful you did a segment on calendula. Within the past 5 yrs I have had to learn a new way of gardening due to a move to a different climate. Honestly due to the pandemic I was able to finally grow a decent garden in 2021. ( Yeah!) I really missed it in my soul.. Back home I let the calendula go to dry, brown seeds in the garden. Here I'm not so lucky. I never knew as long as the seeds were formed I could dry it. Duh! Thank you! Sending much love from across the pond x
Last summer we bought some cherry plum tomatoes from of all places, LIDL. I had placed them in a dish on the counter and we ate them en mass, as we do tomatoes. We loved them so much I decided to take chance and save the seed. I assumed they would be an F1 and they wouldn't come true.............. Turns out they did and they produced so many cherry plums this year. I have, of course, saved plenty of seeds this season for next year, they are the sweetest tomatoes I have ever tasted and didn't get so any blight at all. I actually still have tomatoes on vines right now. Win Win!!
Sounds interesting to make jewellry from dried plants, looking forward to see some videos!
Great video, yes I’ve started seed too. I seem to remember gardeners were struggling to buy seeds this year another reason to save from this years veg and flowers x
This was a fantastic video, I have been saving seeds for years and I really enjoyed seeing different plants that I never grew, and what the seeds look like🌱🌸🌼
Madagascar bean is my favourite seed. So unctuous and prolific.

Thank you. Just harvested lots of my herbs, poppies and love in the mist but wasn’t sure I was saving them correctly. Your vlog really helped. Off to find more to harvest!
So far I have saved: poppy, love in a mist, chive, babies breath, marigold, balloon flower, dill, cilantro with more to come. You have inspired me to try calendula next year.....already purchased the seeds 😃
I'm new and seen your trays and baskets for saving seeds or drying I do this and paper bags with a few in there shaking and looking everyday.....nice to meet you
G00D Evening from Auckland, New Zealand it’s Tuesday, March 31, 2020.
Wonderful demo! Thank you! I am saving seeds from Lantana, marigolds, rudebeckia, impatiens, and ageretum, and purple beans. I will be growing Calendula next year, just bought the seed! 🌸😀🌱
Courgette, cucumber and pumpkin all in one plant! That sounds so fancy! I might actually try that XD I'm trying to grow a dual-purpose courgette-pumpkin hybrid that can be cut early as courgettes or left to mature to pumpkins, wish me luck!
Interesting, thanks. You seem to be very well organized.
This is the best year for my tomatoes at my communitygarden. It is called Floyd Bennett Field Gardens Association in Brooklyn,NY.It was NY very first airport.Iam saving tomato seeds from all the tomatoes that made it to 1lb or more.I have some that look like 2 to 3 lbs maybe. They are huge.If you want I can send you some.I grow all colors. The 3 MONSTER tomatoes are Green Giant, Great White and Italian Sweet. That is the Italian Flag.
I take seeds from cherry tomato and french beens. Love your vids! Greetz from the Netherlands
Please do a video on how you made the poppy pompom?!
Blowing chaff from seed is called winnowing. Another useful method is to use various sieves and colanders. Depending upon the size of the holes, the seeds and the debris either the seeds or the debris are retained.

@@mymirror3867 the seed get dryed as,as normal when saveing seeds the seeds then go in a air tight jar and up in the frezer. To plant just let them warm up 24hr and plant
I save radish seeds, I grow them for the pods and then I leave a few bigger ones to ripen and harvest the seeds when the pod is dry. I used to harvest Calendula seeds as well but they are so great at self seeding that I no longer do that.
Beetroot seeds are my favourite so far, they are a really interesting shape!

My only dream is to have my own allotment, someday hopefully! And to know as much about gardening as you! Lovely videos

Alotments are cheap you can get a discount half price if you know anyone over 65, you can half plots or full plots, but go for a full plot without any ivy. anything with ivy don't have it. but find a good one. some are smaller, others are bigger. and be sure there are decent people as most alotments are open not closed like this one. lucky girl. I have one in Birmingham. it will take time to set up. it will come in times my se. FOLLOW YOUR OWN VISION AND DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, AND YOU'LL BE HAPPY DOING IT. Some people don't agree with my stuff but its my allotment and I do the way im happy ;)

when i find plant that interests-be it fruit or flower- saving that particular cultivar only makes sense , cause might not be able to find next season or ever again ! & have always saved paperbags for this purpose , lol !
I would love to see how you use your dried flowers.
Do you know what CDO is? It's OCD in alphabetical order! I'm CDO with my seed saving...I've been a faithful audience member from the beginning and I think this is my favourite episode so far because I'm a seed freak too!!Cardiospermum, Ricinus, Mirabilis...they are all fascinating to look at! I carry a 10/20/30 hand lens with me all the time...my car has a supply of McDonald's bags for on the spot harvesting but I store everything in coin envelopes. And I save every packet of cilica I can get my hands on to help control the humidity in the camping cooler I store the envelopes in...if there is help for this disorder I'm not sure I want it!
I've been doing this very thing over the last few weeks... I am very curious as to how you make the jewelry with seed pods. My favorite seed pods are large Poppies and Nigella. and just about any size of Allium. Wild Thistle dry beautifully for making wreaths and arrangements.
I saved tomato seeds using a method I read on realseeds, I'd say it worked excellent but I guess I can't be sure yet... Easy process though.
👍 ❤️

Hi Katrina! I have just received my allotment with two large polytunnels, and I found your channel! I am in Scotland and I believe that's not much differences in temp than Nottingham? Perhaps similar vegetables and flowers should grow. It is so much work to be done, I stared from zero, om gosh ,cleaning the polytunnels was a thing! I am starting just to do some seedlings, not much, as I don't have any but thank you so much for the tip! Is it worth to do any social media thing like youtube channel and instagram? Perhaps someone would like to see my hell lots of struggling! haha Best wishes from Edinburgh! Kat x
I'm saving as many garlic chive seeds as possible. The deer don't touch them so they will be sown all around the plants that the deer love. Keeping my fingers crossed.
😇
GREAT video! So informative! We had a crazy summer here in Florida this year, so right now the only seeds that I have been saving are my Zipper Pea seeds. Planning on putting in a fall garden soon as we have a long growing season here in Florida! Looking foward to seeing your next video! Have a GREAT weekend!
Caerphilly
Amish Paste is one of my favorites also, I started saving seed from them last year. I use the fermenting process though. This year I'm going to work on saving seed from a number of vegetables, have you ever saved anything like sweet corn?
be aware of mice. They're specially fond of fresh seeds. Best to put the seeds in closed (plastic) boxes to prevent mice picking around in your seedstock.
what a wonderful video!!! so inspiring, thank u! a bit of clarification if you get a chance, so you cancut flower heads off when they are still fresh and green like the calendula seed heads and then wait and they will dry out on their own? Or do you sometimes have to keep them on the plant until they become dry and brown, like I think you said about the lupine? Is it just different for different flowers? Thank u so much!
This was a timely video, thank you! What are those hanging at the end, the big ball of seed pods...?

I ended up making a poppy head bauble-like decoration with the larger seed poppy heads. It will live inside the shed once I get a hook for it! ☺️
This is helpful, I was wondering if you had to the let the flower dry on the plant to save the seeds, just have to wait for the bloom to die back!

homegrown.garden probably because they self pollinate and you grow them indoors with a relative lack of insects. Real seeds do claim you have to do it though. Bet nobody does.

When you harvest herbs do you wash them before you dry them?
I forgot a few. I also have seeds from bell peppers and basil and mint
All thanks to Dr emuakhe for CURING from polycystic kidney deases am forever grateful sir..
Hi
Can you collect basil seed?
I find saving seeds rather time consuming!! Bit like harvesting Lavendar flowers and leaves!!
What’s the name of the shallots you have hanging in your shed please .
They cost £2.50 a few seeds from shops
hello
I can't believe 8 people gave this video a thumbs down. 😲 I guess they own only fake plastic plants.
1st to say 1st.... but 15th... damn....
You mention crosspollination on squash and using thise seeds etc....tasting bad too.....also can prove poisonous to some and has been known to be fatal.
